AC Milan deserved at least derby point - Shevchenko
tribalfootball.com - December 13, 2005

AC Milan didn't deserve to lose Sunday's derby, insists striker Andrei Shevchenko.
"If the game was ended a minute before then we would be here speaking about a beautiful draw," he said. "A contest was therefore lost, but Milan has not made particular errors.

"It burns a lot to lose like this, we have played well. I must give compliments to Inter because they have played a good game."

Real Madrid offering ?4M for Roma striker Cassano
tribalfootball.com - December 13, 2005

Real Madrid have made contact with Roma over a £4 million offer for striker Antonio Cassano.

The bid is the largest any club has made for the Italy international, who refuses to sign a new contract with Roma and can leave the capital club in the summer on a Bosman.

Inter Milan have registered their interest, but are unwilling to go higher than £2.5 million. Meanwhile, Juve are expected to come on the scene with Real now having shown their hand.

The Spanish giants want Cassano as a replacement for injured captain, Raul, and long-term see the Italian as Ronaldo's understudy.

Trez explains Juve success Monday 12 December, 2005 ---------Channel4

Juventus striker David Trezeguet has revealed the secret behind his side’s remarkable start to the new campaign.

The Bianconeri have been on fire in the Serie A race having won 14 of their first 15 matches so far.

And Trezeguet insists there are a number of factors which have allowed the Old Lady to set such a scintillating pace in the Scudetto race up to this point.

"We are an impressive side, one that always plays with the same desire to win games," said the French international. "Everyone is also in great form."

Juventus are now 10 points clear of Fiorentina and Inter given their incredible start, but he concedes the title race is not over.

"There will undoubtedly be a dip in form," underlined the former Monaco hitman. "However, I’m sure that we have what it takes to defend the lead we have over our rivals."

The Turin outfit collected another impressive victory on Sunday when they demolished relegation candidates Cagliari.

Pavel Nedved opened the scoring before Trezeguet bagged a brace and was the main architect in the own goal which sealed the 4-0 rout.

Trezeguet has now scored 13 goals in 13 League games so far this season, as well as netting four in five Champions League matches.

He broke the 100-goal barrier for the club earlier in the campaign and now has 113 to his name.

Zaccheroni rejects Udinese approach
tribalfootball.com - December 13, 2005

Former AC Milan coach Alberto Zaccheroni has rejected an approach from Udinese.
Despite assurances from director general Pietro Leonardi, coach Serse Cosmi's position at Udinese is under threat following Sunday's defeat against Lecce and their Champions League elimination.

Udinese contacted Zacc last week, but the experienced trainer politely turned them down as he isn't interested in joining a team midseason.

Former Chelsea and Valencia boss Claudio Ranieri is also being linked with the job.

Juventus chief Moggi scoffs at Rummenigge's 'Mafia' claims
tribalfootball.com - December 14, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has shrugged off Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's blast this week.

Rummenigge described Juve's work in the transfer market as being like the "Mafia", but Moggi scoffed: "I do not know what Rummenigge wanted to say with those words and that reference to the mafia methods of Juve.

"We have our methods in the market, but I do not know why the German president has defined them as he has. It's not worth me responding to such things.

"We have not signed anybody from Bayern. If we ever do, he would have to explain to us what these mafia methods are all about."

AC Milan move for Inter outcast Toldo
tribalfootball.com - December 14, 2005

AC Milan representatives have approached the agent of Inter Milan goalkeeper Francesco Toldo this week.
Toldo is off contract in the summer and ready to quit Inter after losing his No1 status to Brazilian Julio Cesar this season.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and transfers chief Ariedo Braida are keen to sign Toldo next month as concerns grow over the form of current No1 keeper Dida.

Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi mentioned their interest in Toldo informally with Inter's Massimo Moratti during Sunday's derby.

Inter Milan's Veron plays down Kaka bust-up
tribalfootball.com - December 14, 2005

Inter Milan midfielder Juan Veron has shrugged off his confrontation with AC Milan's Kaka during Sunday's derby.
"These things happen," said the 32-year-old. "Football is a man's game and certain things sometimes occur, especially in the fraught atmosphere of a derby."

Adriano admits he's no great friend of Inter Milan teammate Veron
tribalfootball.com - December 14, 2005

Adriano admits he still doesn't get along with Inter Milan teammate Juan Veron.
Veron lambasted Adriano earlier this season when he went AWOL while on international duty with Brazil.

While the pair insist all has been forgiven, Adriano did admit after Sunday's derby win: "The important thing is being friends and giving a hand to eachother on the field.

"If then outside the field there is not a friendship, this does not seem so important."

Real Madrid use Cicinho to land option on Fiorentina's Toni
tribalfootball.com - December 14, 2005

Real Madrid's talks with Fiorentina over a loan deal for Cicinho could seal a summer move to Spain for Luca Toni.
Real are interested in the Italy international and it's been suggested their willingness to loan Cicinho to the Florence is a way of smoothing an end-of-season agreement for Toni.

‘Emperor’ revives Inter

A month ago Inter Milan's Serie A campaign seemed to be moving down a familiar path of disappointments and unfulfilled potential .

The 'Neroazzurri' were 10 points adrift of leader Juventus, eight behind cross-town rival AC Milan and even had five points to make up on surprise package Fiorentina. What's more, star Brazilian striker Adriano seemed to be part of the problem, not the solution .

He skulked off the pitch after being substituted, missed a training session amid rumours of nights out clubbing, and angered team-mates by returning late from service with his national side .

He was out of sorts and the result was a goal drought that lasted almost two months .

Since then, Adriano's and Inter's fortunes have changed radically. The player got down to work and his form gradually came back, while Inter re-acquired the habit of winning .

The revival was crowned Sunday when Inter beat Milan 3-2 in the derby, thanks largely to Adriano, who scored two of his side's goals and had a hand in the third .

It was Inter's fourth win on the trot and, because it was against the team's historic rival, it was a huge psychological boost .

The three league points gained enabled it to leapfrog Milan into second place - which it now shares with Fiorentina .

Juventus remains 10 points in front but, after winding Milan in, Inter now feels anything is possible. The scudetto is back on the club agenda .

"I believe it is possible to catch up," Adriano said. "It won't be easy to reach Juventus, but we can win a lot of matches if we play like we did in the derby." The derby performance may also turn out to be a turning point for Adriano personally .

Italian fans have two terms to describe outstanding sports stars - 'fuoriclasse', an exceptional talent, and 'grande campione', a great champion. Everyone accepts that Adriano, nicknamed the Emperor by fans, is the former. He has speed, agility, close ball control to go past defenders, a rocket-like shot and a strong header .

But some pundits wonder whether he can be considered the latter. Doubts have been voiced about his consistency and, above all, his ability to make the difference on the big occasions .

Adriano has scored 13 goals so far this season, for example, but six of those strikes came from hat-tricks against lowly Treviso in Serie A and Slovakian side Armedia in Europe - not opponents to measure a player's champion quality by. Last weekend's derby has silenced those critics for now. Coach Roberto Mancini, who showed unconditional faith in Adriano by fielding him even when he was far from his best, should take much of the credit .

But the season is still not half-way through, and Adriano and Inter have a lot to do if they are to reel in Juve and win the club's first league title since 1989 .

Inter fans are used to false dawns and Adriano will have to overcome his tendency to blow hot and cold if this is not to be another. He also had a two-month dry spell in the middle of last season .

What pundits should not forget though, is that Adriano is only 23. Having grown up in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, he is still getting used to fame and life in a foreign country. He might not have achieved 'grand campione' status yet, but it could come with maturity .

Inter bought Adriano in 2001, but lent him out to Fiorentina and Parma before calling him back in January last year .

He scored 16 goals from 30 league appearances in the 2004-05 season.

Juventus striker Zalayeta on way to Palermo in double-swap
tribalfootball.com - December 15, 2005

Juventus striker Marcelo Zalayeta is on his way to Palermo.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has offered the choice of two players from Fabio Grosso, Simone Barone and Andrea Barzagli in exchange for the Uruguay international.

Zalayeta could move to Palermo in January with Zamparini desperate to boost their attacking options for the second-half of the season.

Real Madrid prepare £25M offer for Juventus keeper Buffon
tribalfootball.com - December 15, 2005

Real Madrid are preparing a £25 million offer for Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.

Christian Abbiati's success this season has convinced Juve chiefs that Buffon's presence isn't crucial and that has encouraged Real to make a new offer for the Italy international.

It's understood the £25 million bid will include defender Ivan Helguera and goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who both renewed their contracts with Real last month.

Any sale of Buffon will depend on Juve sealing a permanent deal for Abbiati with AC Milan. Defender Jonathan Zebina is expected to go to Milan in a straight swap for the keeper.

Intermediaries of Real and Juve have been busy this month, with talks also held over the futures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and coach Fabio Capello.

Palermo president admits keeper search after Juventus talks for Mirante
tribalfootball.com - December 15, 2005

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed he's approached Juventus for goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

"I have asked Mirante from Juve," said Zamparini. "But (Luciano) Moggi has asked me to double the amount of money I offered.

"(Matteo) Guardalben wants to leave, so in January we will see if we can sign Toldo, Abbiati, Mirante or hang onto Guardalben.

"We'll just see what the sports director (Rino Foschi) has to say."

AC Milan's Galliani reveals new Dida contract plans
tribalfootball.com - December 15, 2005

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has jumped to the defence of goalkeeper Dida.

Dida's poor form in recent games has led to speculation that Milan will seek to sign a new, experienced keeper next month.

But Galliani said: "We will renew the contract of Dida. I feel it is the right thing to say today and I have told him so.

"We know what he has given us isn't his absolute best, but he has our full confidence."

The Brazilian could sign his new contract this week, with his current deal expiring in 2007.

Parma Players Worried With Current Situation   -Goal
12/14/2005 7:35:00 AM
However, there is confidence that with the current squad, the Gialloblu can manage to avoid relegation.
Giuseppe Cardone spoke about Parma’s current moment which is far from perfect.

“It’s obvious that we’re worried, but I believe we can do it. I think we shall be able to avoid relegation also with the material that we currently have. We have not yet expressed out potential.”

Lazio - Juventus       Channel4

Delio Rossi called for his Lazio side to be more clinical in front of goal following last weekend’s defeat against Livorno, and they will have few chances to waste against a seemingly invincible Juventus side at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

All in all it has been a positive start to the season for the capital side. Week 15’s 2-1 reverse against Livorno came after two 3-2 wins and the Biancocelesti are still unbeaten at home with five victories from seven. Although the Lazio faithful approached the season with reservations, as yet there have been few indications that their side will be caught up in a relegation dogfight.

The main task for Juventus boss Fabio Capello is preventing complacency within his squad. The Old Lady have a 10 point lead at the top and looked unstoppable in a 4-0 win over Cagliari last weekend. Having seen their major challengers fall by the wayside in recent weeks, Capello’s men know that if they hold their nerve the Scudetto should be a formality.

Saturday’s clash has a special significance for Giuliano Giannichedda who left Rome for Turin in the summer after four seasons with Lazio. Paolo Di Canio and Pavel Nedved have also lined up for both Lazio and Juventus, and it was Nedved who scored a late winner for Juventus in this fixture last season.

Delio Rossi has the luxury of a full squad and Di Canio is set to feature despite his anger at being substituted against Livorno. Emerson and Mauro Camoranesi return for Juventus but Gianluca Pessotto is a doubt. Christian Abbiati will again step in for Gigi Buffon who is out until January.

Lazio (probable): Peruzzi; Belleri, Siviglia, Cribari, Zauri; Behrami, Dabo, Liverani; Pandev, Di Canio, Tare

Juventus (probable): Abbiati; Zambrotta, Thuram, Cannavaro, Chiellini; Camoranesi, Emerson, Vieira, Nedved; Trezeguet , Ibrahimovic

Juventus prepare offer for Bayern Munich's Ballack
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

Juventus want to add Michael Ballack to the signing of Bayern Munich teammate Willy Sagnol at the end of this season.

French international fullback Sagnol is set to confirm his move to Juve in January as he comes off contract in June. It's reported the Frenchman has already agreed terms over a pre-contract with Juve.

Meanwhile, it's emerged Juve chiefs have also drawn up a £3.5 million-a-year pre-contract offer for Ballack to consider.

The deal would make Ballack the highest paid player at the club, but still may not be enough to see off prime rivals Real Madrid for the Bosman prospect.

Juventus defender Thuram slams Di Canio
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

Juventus defender Lilian Thuram has slammed Lazio's Paolo Di Canio over his Roma-style salute on the weekend.

"Gestures like that of Di Canio are very strange," said Thuram. "I think players should set a good example to the fans and each of us must behave impeccably, leaving our politics and ideologies off the playing field. I just want to play football - the best sport there is."

Juventus will face Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend and are looking for their 15th win in 16 games, an achievement no Serie A side has ever managed before.

"We certainly won't be thinking about Di Canio's gesture during the match. All we want to focus on is playing and preferably winning. Lazio will give it everything they've got, but we are not afraid."

Inter Milan resigned to losing Cruz, Zanetti
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

Inter Milan have all but given up hope of persuading Cristiano Zanetti and Julio Cruz to sign new contracts.

The pair, along with Alvaro Recoba, are all due to hold new contract talks in the coming weeks with Inter, but only the Uruguayan is expected to re-sign.

Like Recoba, Cruz is also happy at Inter, but is desperate for more first team opportunities and is a Bosman target for Roma.

Midfielder Zanetti has denied reports he's already agreed a pre-contract with Juventus for next season, though the Serie A leaders remain favourites for the Italy international from Fiorentina.

Kaladze: AC Milan not giving up title race
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

AC Milan are still in the Scudetto race, insists defender Kakha Kaladze.

Milan are now in fourth place and are expected to focus their attention on to the Champions League for the rest of this season.

Kaladze said: "It's a strange time for us and I can't understand why the results aren't going our way, as we don't seem to be struggling during the games. We also played well on Sunday evening, especially when we had more of the possession in the second half. These off periods happen in football and you can't be consistent all the time.

"We have to look forward and start from scratch on Sunday against Messina.

"If someone thinks we're going to give up, then they're very wrong. All we can do is focus on winning every game and then work out the final table when we get there."

De Sanctis urges Udinese fans to back team
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

Udinese goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis admits the team needs their fans' support.

De Sanctis feels that Udinese supporters need to rally round the side and get behind them to help them rediscover their form.

"When you lose there is always a lot of disillusionment and protests from supporters," added the 28-year-old shot-stopper.

"It's the same old story, and I understand their feelings, but in this instance we need their help - their support is indispensable. Verona could be the start of our comeback."

Inter Milan supremo Moratti admits Obinna interest
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti has confirmed they're considering recalling Victor Obinna from his loan at Chievo Verona.

After ending talk of signing Roma striker Antonio Cassano next month as cover for Obafami Martins, who is leaving for Nigeria's African Nations Cup campaign, Moratti added: "We do have Obinna under consideration.

"He could be recalled to cover Martins. At the moment he's with Chievo, but nothing is decided whether he stays or returns."

Man Utd revive interest for Inter Milan's Solari
tribalfootball.com - December 16, 2005

Manchester United are considering reviving their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Santiago Solari.

The Argentina international chose Inter over United in the summer as he came off contract at Real Madrid, but has failed to settle in Italy.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson sees Solari as a long-term successor for Ryan Giggs and knows Inter wouldn't stand in the midfielder's way should a competitive offer arrive next month.

Juventus chief Moggi plays it cool over Sagnol claims
tribalfootball.com - December 19, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi refused to confirm they have a deal for Bayern Munich fullback Willy Sagnol.
"Sagnol is coming to Juve? He has said it, but our management has never said so," Moggi declared. (Bayern supremo Karl-Heinz) Rumenigge says that they will do everything in order to stop him going to Juventus. Rumenigge creates the questions and he gives the answers.

Bayern Munich ready to wreck Sagnol's Juventus move
tribalfootball.com - December 19, 2005

Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is threatening to block Willy Sagnol's move to Juventus.

Sagnol has confirmed he's moving to Juve when he comes off contract at the end of this season: "Juventus are a great club who have a lot of respect for their players, just as Bayern do.

"Serie A football has always intrigued me and I want to continue picking up trophies and playing alongside great stars. There are many other Frenchmen at Juve who can help me to settle in quickly. Above all, I really want to work with a world class Coach like Fabio Capello."

However, Rummenigge made a threat yesterday: "Director General Luciano Moggi did not act in a gentlemanly manner, but everyone knows how he works.

"He spoke to Sagnol when Bayern and Juve were playing each other in the Champions League and should have informed us of these talks. Does he think we're all idiots in Munich? It's not over yet, as Sagnol will never join Juventus. I can say this for certain."

Inter Milan coach Mancini: Cassano can match Barcelona's Messi
tribalfootball.com - December 19, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has again admitted admiration for Roma striker Antonio Cassano.

He said: "I'm sure most coaches would gladly have him in their squad, as he is a great talent. I hear so much talk about Barcelona's Lionel Messi, but in my view Cassano is on the same level."

tribalfootball.com - December 19, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini admits he'd love to sign Real Madrid striker Ronaldo.

The past few days have also seen rumours of a shock return to the San Siro for Ronaldo, who is caught up in the revolution at Real Madrid.

Mancini said: "Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world. If he was happy here and is considering leaving his current club, then it's only natural he would think about a comeback.

"I find it unlikely Real would release such a star. Would the Inter fans like him back? Ronie certainly gave them enjoyment over the years and they cannot forget those times."

Chievo's Obinna unlikely to join Inter Milan
tribalfootball.com - December 19, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini admits he has all but discarded the option of recalling Nigerian youngster Victor Obinna from Chievo Verona.

Nigerian Obafemi Martins will have to leave Inter in the New Year for the African Nations Cup and Mancini admits Chievo's Obinna is earmarked as his replacement.

"Obinna is a young talent who has already impressed in seven or eight Serie A games, but he is still only a teenager. The main problem for us is that he could also be called up by Nigeria for that tournament, so we're still looking at our options," said Mancio.

Lazio's Liverani: We had to attack Juventus
tribalfootball.com - December 19, 2005

Lazio midfielder Fabio Liverani defended their physical approach in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Juventus.

"In order to play at the same level as Juve you must assault them and play the ball; they can make a goal at anytime, playing with this intensity, however, we have resisted very well," said Liverani.

"In the end we could have scored again, it would have been the perfect finish to a perfect game; but we must however be satisfied with this result."
