Emerson Anger At Vieira’s Treatment      ------------Goal
12/4/2005 10:33:00 PM
Juventus midfielder Patrick Vieira was racially abused during Sunday's 2-1 Serie A victory over Fiorentina, according to Juve team-mate Emerson.
Emerson said that the former Arsenal skipper, who was born in Senegal, had been abused by the Viola fans at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence.

"Vieira has been the victim of racist insults," said Emerson after the game.

"It’s very sad to see that something like this still happens in 2006."

Emerson’s claims come a week after racists targeted Ivory Coast player Marco Zoro of Messina during last Sunday’s Serie A fixture against Internazionale. Zoro threatened to walk off the pitch in protest.

Ironically, the latest incident, involving Vieira, comes as the Italian Football Federation launched an initiative to combat racism, with all games this week having a five-minute delay as a protest.

Cannavaro: Juventus experience so much better than Inter Milan
tribalfootball.com - December 5, 2005

Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro says he has no regrets over his move away from
Cannavaro said: "Here there is a beautiful atmosphere, organised dinners, the children all nearly go to the same schools and the same arenas.

"It is beautiful here and what other clubs find difficult to organise.

Juventus keeper Buffon: I'm not quite there yet
tribalfootball.com - December 5, 2005

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon admits he's not quite ready to return to Serie A action.

Buffon was on the bench for yesterday's clash with Fiorentina after making his comeback against the same team last week in the Coppa Italia.

"Physically I am well, but I still have some problems in the approach to the game," said Buffon. "I have spoken about it with Capello and we are in agreement that is it more opportune to play one more game to be ready for the top competition."

AC Milan set for talks with agent of Palermo's Grosso
tribalfootball.com - December 5, 2005

AC Milan transfers chief Ariedo Braida is set for talks this week with the agent of Palermo left-back Fabio Grosso.

Braida wants to set up a deal for the Italy international ahead of the January market and will speak with Stefano Antonelli possibly today about Grosso's situation.

Grosso is also a prime target for Juventus, though they would prefer to settle on a deal in June.

Moggi reveals planned Juventus talks for Triade
tribalfootball.com - December 5, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi says talks will be held in January about the future of the club's famous 'Triade'.

Moggi's future has been called into doubt recently with reports of a move to Inter Milan, while Fabio Capello has stated his contract extension depends on the presence of the 'Triade' - Moggi, Roberto Bettega and Antonio Giraudo.

"There is an important connection with the Juventus owners and we want to stay, so we'll discuss it in January. I have an excellent rapport with Inter owner Massimo Moratti, regardless of the recent discussions between the two clubs," said Moggi.

Juventus chief confirms Sagnol push
tribalfootball.com - December 5, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has confirmed their push for Bayern Munich fullback Willy Sagnol.

"We are interested in Sagnol," he told Dribbling. "If we have the chance to sign him, then we will do so. Considering we have a lot of French players in the squad, I suppose he might be eager to join them."

The French international's contract expires at the end of the season and Bayern Munich have confirmed over the past week that they believe he'll move to Juve on a free transfer.

"My next team has already been decided and when the new owners take it over I will have my coaching job.

Serie A: Post-Match Comments       ---------------Goal
Sunday 4 December, 2005
Fiorentina 1-2 Juventus

Cesare Prandelli: “We played a great game today and I think my players for their marvellous performance. We did not deserve to lose and it certainly wasn’t easy against Juventus. Unfortunately, we allowed ourselves to be taken by surprise on our corner.”

Fabio Capello: “We are having a great season so far and are very satisfied with our progress. It was an entertaining game with real intensity and passion from both sides. This is the football we like to see, both on the pitch and off. We created plenty of chances and Fiorentina did well with their opportunities, so perhaps a draw would’ve been the right result.”

Lazio 3-2 Siena

Delio Rossi: “Let’s just say we’re storing nuts for winter with results like this. Sometimes we make life difficult for ourselves, as we did in the closing stages, but I prefer a team that goes looking for the fourth goal rather than one sitting back in defence.”

Gigi De Canio: “I think that we sat back a little too much in the first half and at the end of the day we paid the price for that. We proved to ourselves that if we have an attacking and aggressive attitude, then we can put anyone under pressure.”

Palermo 2-2 Cagliari

Gigi Del Neri: “It’s a shame to throw away points like this when the win was within our grasp. Our problem is one of concentration, as if you concede a goal on every shot then something is wrong. We keep scoring, but it’s at the back that we need to work out some kinks.”

Nedo Sonetti: “I expected to see confirmation of our upswing after last week’s victory over Sampdoria and I certainly think I got that. We played a great second half and reacted well to going 2-0 down.”

Reggina 2-1 Parma

Walter Mazzarri: “Parma were our direct competitors in the race to avoid relegation. You need to win these head to head clashes, even if they are very difficult. My team is by no means defensive, as Francesco Cozza was playing as a second striker and Giandomenico Mesto was on the wing.”

Mario Beretta: “The lads gave their all today and showed great temperament, but in our current condition, it was tough to expect anything more. It’s a shame their performance couldn’t bring back at least a point. I am happy that the club has confirmed its faith in me, as we are working hard despite many problems.”

Sampdoria 2-0 Empoli

Walter Novellino: “We did everything possible to win this match and I’m happy we finally managed it, despite using up so much energy on Wednesday against Hertha Berlin. These games are dangerous, as you risk conceding on the counter-attack.”

Mario Somma: “The performances are up to standard, so now all we’re missing are the results. It was tough for us, even if we didn’t run too many risks. Just as we were starting to make our mark on the game, Samp hit us with a quick couple of goals. They’re a fine squad with players who can turn a game at any moment.”

Treviso 0-0 Messina

Alberto Cavasin: “In any case, we are improving and this was a better performance than some of our recent outings. We must only really start worrying about the table in the spring.”

Bortolo Mutti: “We played a wonderful first half, so it’s a shame we weren’t able to turn those scoring opportunities into goals, partly thanks to goalkeeper Adriano Zancopè. There was a lot at stake here and we are satisfied with the result.”

Udinese 0-2 Livorno

Serse Cosmi: “We seem to have one team in the Champions League and another in Serie A, so we lack consistency. After the Barcelona game, where we will need more quality than I saw today, I want to see us focus on the domestic scene.”

Roberto Donadoni: “Our second half was very impressive. We’re trying to find consistency between our home and away performances so that we can aim for more than a mid-table position this season. We struggled at times today, but with hard work will improve even more.”
"I do not know why Inter Milan cannot win trophies, I did not succeed to express myself at my best there. I have resolved those problems here."

Inter Milan to offer £3M for Man Utd's Giggs
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti is ready to bid for Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs.
Moratti has always wanted to see Giggs wearing an Inter shirt and is banking on the January transfer window being the perfect time to convince United to cash in on the 32 year-old.

If United fail this week to make the Champions League knockout phase, Moratti will push through a £3 million offer to the Premiership giants, whose owners cannot afford to miss out on the £15 million European jackpot.

Inter Milan to bid for Ajax wing-back Maxwell
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Inter Milan could clinch a deal for Ajax midfielder Maxwell in January.
Inter president Giacinto Facchetti has confirmed they will spend in the winter market, with a left-sided player a priority for coach Roberto Mancini.

Maxwell is off contract in the summer and courting interest from Juventus and Arsenal. However, neither club is willing to pay a fee for the Brazilian in January.

Inter patron Massimo Moratti knows any serious bid will be accepted by Ajax and he would love to get one over rivals Juve by landing Maxwell next month.

Fiorentina coach plays down Fiore row
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has played down the angry reaction from Stefano Fiore at being substituted in Sunday's defeat by Juventus.
The trainer said: "I have not seen the reaction of Stefano. If he was unhappy about it, we will speak, as mature people - like always.

"But we must be careful, now is not the time to act poorly on your own."

Juventus coach Capello heaps praise on Abbiati
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Juventus coach Fabio Capello refused to comment on whether he wanted to hang onto on-loan AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati beyond the January transfer window.
With Gigi Buffon now fit to play again, Abbiati's future at Juve is in doubt, particularly as he wants regular first team football to stay in Italy's World Cup plans.

Capello, however, did say: "I am very happy with of how much Abbiati has done for us as cover for Buffon.

"From when Milan gave him on loan to us, I have seen him return to be the great goalkeeper he has always been and to find again a National team place.

"We have helped him do this, but also he has shown the will to work to great levels."

Moggi on AC Milan defeat: I was at the cinema!
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has revealed what he thinks of AC Milan's title challenge.
After seeing Juve go eight points clear on Sunday at the top of the Serie A table, Moggi said: "It's better for me not to talk about the defeat suffered by AC Milan.

"Why? Well mainly because I didn't see it. I was at the cinema ...!"

Parma: Beretta not facing sack
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Parma have released an official statement denying that coach Mario Beretta is set to be dismissed.
Comments from Zdenek Zeman over the weekend fueled rumours that the Czech was about to replace Beretta once Lorenzo Sanz's takeover was completed.

But yesterday an official Parma statement read: "With respect to the reports appearing in some sections of the press, the club of Parma FC communicates that the news is lacking in all foundation.

"The President has expressed the full confidence of the club in the trainer Mario Beretta."

Juventus coach Capello shrugs off 8-point gap
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Juventus coach Fabio Capello shrugged off their eight-point lead at the top of the table after Sunday's win over Fiorentina.

"Last season we had a similar advantage and were caught by Milan," warned Capello. "This year there are many more teams that can cause problems for the giants and Fiorentina are one of them. In truth, a draw was probably the right result."

Mauro German Camoranesi scored the 88th minute winner and agreed with his Coach's analysis of the game.

"Considering the chances both teams created, a draw would've reflected the performances better. Fiorentina had a great opportunity just before my goal, as it was a very balanced encounter. I know we're eight points clear, but the Scudetto has always been decided in February and March. That's the key time."

Lazio president Lotito warns boo-boys: You're making big mistake
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

Lazio president Claudio Lotito says he won't be "forced" into selling the club by angry fans.

Before the weekend's match against Siena, banners were draped at the stadium by ultras demanding Lotito sell Lazio and leave.

But a defiant Lotito said yesterday: "I don't understand this call that I must sell. If I do not want to, I don't have to and won't be forced into a decision."

"It's an orchestrated campaign by a minority group that is against the healthy management of the club. But if they think they'll tire me, they have made a big mistake."

AC Milan coach Ancelotti demands better in players' meeting
tribalfootball.com - December 6, 2005

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti held a players' meeting for 20 minutes at Milanello on Sunday following the previous evening's shock defeat by Chievo.
Ancelotti was furious with the attitude of his players and criticised his midfielders for over-elaborating during the Verona reverse.

The Milan coach demanded a better attitude from his team for the Champions League clash with Schalke and the match against Inter in the coming days.

Ancelotti has also spoken with vice-president Adriano Galliani and is aware of the board's unhappiness with Juventus now eight points clear at the top of the table.

Juventus are keeping tabs on Boca Juniors attacker Rodrigo Palacio.

Juve chiefs believe they can convert Palacio into an attacking wing-back and see him as a replacement for Mauro Camoranesi.

Inter Milan's Zanetti denies Juventus deal
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Inter Milan midfielder Cristiano Zanetti has denied reports he has already agreed terms with Juventus for next season.
Zanetti's deal at Inter expires in the summer, but he insists he has agreed nothing with Juve: "It is not true that I have come to an agreement with Juventus.

"But I haven't played enough and in order to remain I demand clarity over my future. It's important that Mancini says that I will play more, but his words mean little and I have need of facts."

tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Juventus are attempting to finalise terms with striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a new contract.
Real Madrid are willing to offer a staggering £35 million for the Sweden international, who has been a revelation since his arrival at Juve 18 months ago.

Ibrahimovic wants to be on the same money as teammate Patrick Vieira - £4 million-a-year - which Juve have so far baulked at agreeing to.

Juventus chief: Impossible Capello would leave
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi says there is no way coach Fabio Capello will move to Real Madrid.
"Capello is so happy here that it is impossible he would want another club," said Moggi. "You must also realise how good the future looks for Juventus, which is why we are optimistic he will stay.

"The greater tie between us is not the contract but the friendship that we have."

Juventus chief Moggi attempts to calm Inter Milan tensions
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has attempted to pour cold water on a simmering row with Inter Milan.
Inter chiefs are still angry with taunting from Juve over the buying policy of patron Massimo Moratti, but Moggi says: "We have not made war, we are being misinterpreted.

"Or Facchetti has understood it wrongly, or we have understand them wrongly. It would be better that we zipped up. I had defended the Inter, because we all must control our budgets."

Del Piero: I get along with Juventus coach Capello
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Alessandro del Piero has reiterated he has a good relationship with Juventus coach Fabio Capello.
Del Piero is playing his best football since Capello's arrival in Turin and the striker said: "Yes, we're 8 points clear of AC Milan, but nothing has been won yet and we must try to remain cautious. If we remain humble it is better.

"When I have played, I have been able to take advantage of the minutes given to me to do my best for the team. I have a good relationship with Capello. It is professional and has always been so."

Parma president insists Sanz deal still on
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Parma president Guido Angiolini remains confident that Lorenzo Sanz will complete his takeover of the Serie A club.
The former Real Madrid president is still to pay the final £5 million installment to close the buyout, but Angiolini said: "The negotiation of the sale of Parma FC does not have a deadline.

"If Sanz does not fulfill the final phase, the money that has already been paid will remain with the club. But today we have a deposit and that's important compared to other interested parties."

Ex-AC Milan star Albertini announces retirement
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini has announced his retirement.

"After many years in which I have given my life to this sport, I have decided to leave football," the 34-year-old stated.

"After a lot of victories and defeats which have helped to form my character, I need new stimuli and objectives, which I will target with the great passion which has always accompanied me."

Albertini was born in Besana Brianza on August 23, 1971 and was a successful product of the Milan youth system.

He spent 14 years with the Italian giants, between 1989 and 2002, where he scored 21 goals in 293 games.

It was with the Rossoneri that he collected five League titles, one European Cup, two European Super Cups and three Italian Super Cups.

After officially hanging up his boots, Albertini plans to enter coaching.

Juventus want to hang onto AC Milan's Abbiati
tribalfootball.com - December 7, 2005

Juventus insist they do not want to lose on-loan AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati.

Palermo are one club who have been paired with the shot-stopper, who is only on loan in Turin from Milan.

"Juventus continue to have important objectives to achieve," continued Bettega. "We therefore have three excellent goalkeepers and we need them all."

However, the former Juventus and Italy striker did concede that Abbiati might ask for a transfer in World Cup year.

"It is obvious that a club talks to its players in order to also meet with their desires," concluded the official.

Roma coach Spalletti 'happy' with transfer ban
tribalfootball.com - December 8, 2005

AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti says he is happy with the club's transfer embargo being upheld this week in Switzerland.
"All the confusion is now over," said Spalletti. "Now we can plan carefully for June - we always thought the January market would be blocked for us."

On Antonio Cassano's future, he added: "In order to sign the player, a club will have to pay him a lot of money and also meet our own expectations (in January).

"The most important thing will be what money they offer to us."

AC Milan supremo Galliani: Ancelotti safe
tribalfootball.com - December 8, 2005

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has handed coach Carlo Ancelotti a massive vote of confidence.

After Tuesday night's thrilling Champions League triumph over Schalke, Galliani declared: "It was a nervous night, but we are certainly one of the most entertaining teams in Europe. I am close to Ancelotti, in sickness and in health. As long as I am here, the Coach will remain at Milan."

They will be seeds in Friday's Champions League draw for the knockout round and could pick some giants of the sport.

"I hope we pick either Chelsea or Real Madrid. Don't forget I celebrated when we drew Deportivo La Coruna a few years ago and we all know how that went. We knew this was a crucial moment in our campaign and, although we may get distracted in long competitions, we tend to be the best Italian team in Europe with our recent record."

Palermo fans visit training ground to voice concerns
tribalfootball.com - December 8, 2005

Palermo fans barracked the players at training on Wednesday.
A group of supporters went to Palermo's training ground to make clear their disenchantment with the way the team has been playing in recent weeks.

The Palermo fans, which were representing various supporter groups, were well behaved, but demanded better from their underachieving team.

Parma's Morfeo hit by 5-match ban
tribalfootball.com - December 8, 2005

Parma striker Domenico Morfeo has been banned for five games for striking Cagliari's Carlos Paredes.
Morfeo was adjudged to have "struck an opponent in the head with his hand and used foul and abusive language towards the referee".

The Parma attacker will miss forthcoming matches against Sampdoria, Siena, Cagliari, Milan and Lazio and will not be available for selection until January 18, two days after his 30th birthday.

Parma are expected to appeal in an effort to get the playmaker's ban scrapped or at least reduced.

Inter Milan supremo Moratti: Bring on Real Madrid, Chelsea
tribalfootball.com - December 8, 2005

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti wants to see his club draw either Real Madrid or Chelsea in the knockout round of the Champions League.

"We were quite relaxed and it remained an enjoyable experience, as I was afraid the lads would take it lying down. It was a shame to see Andreolli injured quite seriously and Cristiano Zanetti dismissed," said Moratti.

Moratti dropped a not so subtle hint for Friday's draw, when he would like to see Real Madrid or Chelsea picked to play Inter.

"Any team is good or bad, depending on how we play. In truth, I wouldn't mind visiting the beautiful city of Madrid or London," he smiled.

Juventus to repay AC Milan with Zebina deal
tribalfootball.com - December 8, 2005

Juventus are ready to send defender Jonathan Zebina on-loan to AC Milan in Janaury.
Milan have approached Juve about the Frenchman, who has fallen out with management this season over new contract demands.

Juve are happy to loan Zebina to Juve to repay the favour the Serie A champs received from Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi in August when he sent Christian Abbiati to Turin following the shoulder injury suffered by goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.
--------------------------------
Juventus - Cagliari  -Channel4

Juventus have an air of invincibility at the moment and it will require a near-miracle for Cagliari to change that when they meet at the Stadio Delle Alpi on Sunday. While the Sardinians will expect defeat, they have had a positive couple of weeks and will look to force Fabio Capello’s men to work hard for the three points.

Victory over Fiorentina last weekend, coupled with Milan’s defeat at Chievo, opened up an eight point gap at the top of the table, but Capello is determined to avoid any complacency and will accept nothing less than a fifth straight victory. The Juventus boss will also be determined to detract from Press speculation that he may be set for a move to Madrid.

Nedo Sonetti will be highly encouraged by his Cagliari side’s recent performances. After a disastrous start to the season which saw the demise of three Coaches, the Sardinians are finally playing with some confidence and resolve.

A 2-0 win over Sampdoria in Week 13 owed a lot to Honduran striker David Suazo who netted his sixth and seventh goals of the campaign and is showing his true potential. Last week’s 2-2 draw with Palermo was an apt demonstration of Sonetti’s positive impact. Having trailed 2-0 at the break, they fought back to get a 2-2 draw.

The Cagliari Coach will go in search of an improbable first away win of the season with a full squad. Capello is likely to start Gigi Buffon but is missing Emerson, Fabio Cannavaro and Mauro Camoranesi. Brazilian defender Gladstone and Federico Balzaretti are likely to benefit from the depleted squad and start on the bench.

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Zambrotta, Thuram, Kovac, Chiellini; Blasi, Giannichedda, Vieira, Nedved; Trezeguet, Ibrahimovic

Cagliari (probable): Campagnolo; Lopez, Vignati, Bizera, Agostini; Esposito, Conti, Budel, Conticchio; Suazo, Langella

----------------------------
Inter - Milan                           Channel4

Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Mancini will both approach Sunday’s clash at the San Siro with a degree of trepidation. Mancini has spent a large part of the season under pressure and following the Rossoneri’s shock defeat at the hands of Chievo last weekend, Ancelotti is also under intense scrutiny.

Although both sides’ title chances already look remote, the battle for second place could not be more important. There will also be the personal battle between Brazil’s two top goalkeepers in the form of Julio Cesar for Inter and Dida for Milan. Last season’s two derby days only produced one goal – the first finished goalless, Milan won the other 1-0 – and with so much at stake and such quality in goal, a tight encounter is likely.

Pre-season expectation was intense amongst the Inter faithful but the Nerazzurri struggled to find consistency early in the season. However, Mancini’s men had won their last four matches against Parma, Artmedia Bratislava, Messina and Ascoli – before the draw with Rangers – and are starting to play with confidence.

The defensive frailty shown against Roma, Palermo and Sampdoria has eased and with it has the pressure on Mancini. Adriano scored the winner against Ascoli and was on target against Rangers. He has the ability to menace Milan’s ageing defence, but the Inter boss can only hope that he is in the right frame of mind.

Ancelotti was left to rue an uncharacteristically error-ridden performance last weekend but called for his side to show their usual aggression against their city rivals. The Milan boss also promised that the Rossoneri would overcome their two big challenges this week. After a tense 3-2 win over Schalke ensured Champions League progress, he can only hope that his squad have enough in the tank to ensure a successful seven days.

Paolo Maldini is a major doubt for Milan but Clarence Seedorf is set to return. Christian Vieri is unlikely to feature against his former side. Mancini will be without Alvaro Recoba who sustained an injury against Ascoli and possibly Marco Materazzi who limped off against Rangers.

Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; J Zanetti, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli; Figo, Veron, Cambiasso, Stankovic; Martins, Adriano

Milan (probable): Dida; Simic, Stam, Nesta, Kaladze; Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka; Gilardino, Shevchenko

AC Milan agree Abbiati swap for Juventus defender Zebina
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

AC Milan and Juventus have agreed a swap deal ahead of the January market.
Milan have offered to make goalkeeper Christian Abbiati's loan move to Juventus into a permanent transfer, while Jonathan Zebina will move in the opposite in straight exchange.

The sticking point, however, is Abbiati, who is reluctant to sign outright with Juve if he will only be considered second-choice to the returning Gigi Buffon.

AC Milan, Juventus move for Ajax's De Jong
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

AC Milan and Juventus are ready to battle Premiership heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea for Ajax's want-away midfielder Nigel de Jong.

The young Holland international has declared he will leave at the end of this season when his contract expires and that has put Europe's biggest clubs on red alert.

United, Chelsea, Juve and Milan have all made contact with De Jong's representatives and are busily preparing pre-contract deals for the midfielder to consider next month.

"I must take a big step in my career. There still hasn't been contact with other teams," said De Jong. "Right now, I only want to complete a good season with Ajax."

Juventus offer Zalayeta for Palermo's Barzagli
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

Juventus are aiming to trump AC Milan for Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli.
Juve want to negotiate an option on Barzagli with Palermo and are willing to offer Marcelo Zalayeta on a six-month loan to seal the deal.

Milan want to sign Italy international Barzagli in January, but could be thwarted if Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini accepts Juve's offer.

Doni set to agree new Roma contract
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

Roma goalkeeper Doni is set for more talks over his contract today.
The Brazilian is on a one-year deal with the option of another three years and is expected to ink a new deal through to 2009 next week.

Doni's agent already met with Roma director general Daniele Prade and players chief Bruno Conti earlier this week and negotiations are scheduled to begin again today.

The new deal is expected to be worth £250,000-a-year.

Sensini angry with Udinese teammates
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

Udinese veteran Nestor Sensini was angry with his teammates after this week's Champions League failure against a second-string Barcelona.

"We had two results open to us to get through and tried to avoid their style of play, but at some stage we gave up on our own chances and a lucky ricochet let them through. It's a terrible shame, as it was a unique adventure for many of us and this crowd deserved better," said the Argentine.

"Now this squad and the Coach must find the strength to fight back and we have the time to make up for our difficult start in Serie A. Nonetheless, this elimination is a heavy blow."

Inter Milan's Branca in talks with Cassano agent
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

Inter Milan sports chief Marco Branca was spotted in a meeting with the agent of AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano this week.

Branca and Beppe Bozzo are said to have met to discuss a January move to the San Siro for Italy international Cassano.

Inter are willing to offer up to £7 million for Cassano next month, despite the striker having just six months to run on his present deal.

Terms discussed between Branca and Bozzo are understood to have centred on a four-year contract worth £2.5 million-a-season.

Juventus chief Moggi won't consider Capello queries
tribalfootball.com - December 9, 2005

AC Milan coach Ancelotti clears Kaka over resignation talk
tribalfootball.com - December 12, 2005

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti insists he has no problem with midfielder Kaka.

The Brazilian was forced to clarify comments after his goals against Schalke last week which suggested if they hadn't won Ancelotti would have resigned.

The Milan coach said: "The words of Kakà have been badly interpreted because there was no worries over my future.

"Kaka has said something and someone has messed with his words. It is a rumour that does not exist. My relationship with the club is very fair."

Juventus chief Moggi: Ibrahimovic won't go to Real Madrid
tribalfootball.com - December 12, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi insists they won't be tempted into cashing in on star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Real Madrid are preparing a £35 million offer for the Swede, who is still to put pen to paper on a new contract with Juve.

But Moggi says: "The story is surely something being put about by agents. We are discussing with Ibrahimovic about renewing his contract with his agent and soon we will draw up this contract for him, as promised.

"We want to reward him a new contract because he is a champion and he is giving a lot to the team."

Juventus coach Capello: USA big threat to Italy
tribalfootball.com - December 12, 2005

Juventus coach Fabio Capello rates the United States as the dark horse of Italy's World Cup group.

Capello, who has been linked with a future as Italy boss, commented on the World Cup draw that placed the Azzurri in Group E with Ghana, the Czech Republic and USA.

"It's a difficult group, but then again they all are at this level. We must be wary of the United States of America, as to underestimate them could prove costly," he said.

Nigeria reject Inter Milan request to use Martins
tribalfootball.com - December 12, 2005

Nigeria have rejected Inter Milan's request to call on striker Obefami Martins during next month's African Nations Cup.

Inter had hoped to jet Martins back and forth from Egypt during the tournament, but Nigeria FA president Ibrahim Galadima said: "This is impossible.

"We must have minimal distractions for the squad while in Egypt."

AC Milan coach Ancelotti: I've never felt under threat
tribalfootball.com - December 12, 2005

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti insists he's never felt his job was under threat.

Milan just scraped through into the Champions League knockout round last week after a dramatic win over Schalke, which saw a very public hug between Ancelotti and vice-president Adriano Galliani.

"We were at a crossroad, but against Schalke we have succeeded," said Ancelotti. "I embraced Galliani and it was simply because we had won a big game and not my difficulties in carrying on this season - difficulties which were not there.

"If there's been some misunderstanding from the players, it's because they've read too much in the newspapers and they have given too much credibility to the stories in there.

"There was never any chance of me leaving if we had been eliminated."

Bayern liken Juve to the ‘Mafia’            -Channel4
Sunday 11 December, 2005
Juventus’ transfer policy has been blasted by Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "They are like the Mafia," he moaned.

The German made the sensational statement on Sunday, where he picked out Luciano Moggi (pictured) for particular criticism.

The Bianconeri director general is widely regarded as one of the best in the business, but the Italian seems to have annoyed the former Inter player.

"I no longer want anything to do with their director general Luciano Moggi," he told the Bild newspaper.

"They are not gentleman at Juventus, they are like the Mafia."

You don’t have to be a genius to figure out why the German legend is so upset, given recent transfer speculation.

Juventus already signed Robert Kovac on a free transfer from Bayern last summer and a repeat is on the cards.

French right-back Willy Sagnol will be out of contract at the end of term and he too seems almost certain to be heading for Turin.

Sagnol, who is expected to replace Jonathan Zebina at the club next season, is set to confirm his Delle Alpi switch in January.

Rummenigge has indicated that he in unhappy with the way Juventus allegedly haven’t respected FIFA rules with regard to players who are coming to the end of their contracts.

Serie A Sound Bites                     ---------------Goal
12/12/2005 1:14:00 AM
Who said what after the latest round of matches in Italy’s Serie A?
Internazionale 3-2 AC Milan
Roberto Mancini: "The team played well and merited the win. We deserved to win this derby encounter…Our objective for now is to win every game until the half-way stage of the season and then assess our situation."
Adriano: "We played well from the start of the first half and we deserved the win. We were really motivated today and we just want to continue like this from now on. I must thank my team-mates who have been a great help to me this week. I’m happy but the season isn’t over yet. We hope to close the gap and overtake them [Juventus] even if we know it will be tough. Yet if we play like this then we can do it."
Carlo Ancelotti: "We have been used to some great performances [from goalkeeper Dida] and he could have done better with the Martins goal, but he can’t always produce miracles. Christian Vieri? I put him on with 15 minutes left during the moment of our most intense pressure. He is good in the air and that could have been useful."

Juventus 4-0 Cagliari
Fabio Capello: "I saw a great Juventus out there, a side who played with real quality. I’m really satisfied because all of my players looked in good condition. We attacked but also gave very little away. Patrick Vieira? He was immense today."
Nedo Sonetti: "Had we approached this game differently, I think it would have ended in the same way. Juventus were super strong, especially psychologically. They are superior to everyone else. We did our best but there really was little we could do against this Juve."

Roma 1-2 Palermo
Luciano Spalletti: "We played below our level. They were better than us and deserved their victory. They illustrated that they are more of a team and squad. They were superior to us in the personal battles on the pitch, in which they won all duels."
Gigi Del Neri: "I think that I conducted myself well at Roma last season and this victory doesn’t feel like revenge for me. Palermo were excellent, we gave Roma very little space and we were good enough to react to their equaliser."

Ascoli 1-1 Reggina
Massimo Silva: "We thought the game would go differently, but we had to change our tactical approach because of the really wet and heavy pitch. The draw is a little tight for us to be honest and the fact that we lost a lead is disappointing. The boys gave their all out there and they will continue to do that seeing as the pitch is unlikely to improve during the winter."
Walter Mazzarri: "We would have been robbed if we’d lost that game. We went down to 10 men, possibly because Franceschini’s red card was a little excessive. Despite that, we caused them real trouble by creating numerous chances."

Livorno 2-1 Lazio
Roberto Donadoni: "Lazio were better technically and the three points are perhaps too many for us to have picked up today. The strong wind handicapped both sides, yet this win is so important. The President has praised me? I’m happy and am just looking to grow with this team."
Delio Rossi: "We played our best away game of the season – we just weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. We looked to win the game and reacted with great character after going one goal down. This is important for the future."

Messina 2-0 Chievo
Bortolo Mutti: "They showed themselves to be a good team, even after they were reduced to 10 men. I think our victory was basically constructed thanks to a fine first half display. My boys played with great pride and this is a positive signal for the rest of the championship."
Giuseppe Pillon: "I wasn’t happy with the goal which was taken off us. The referee gave it, then disallowed it. Even if the goal was offside (which it was), I didn’t like the dynamic of how it was annulled. I don’t know what happened."

Parma 1-1 Sampdoria
Mario Beretta: "A lot of my players were not at their best, but I thought the side battled and played well. The disallowed Marchionni goal? That would have made it 2-0 which would have been game over. They didn’t give it to us and that is not the first time that has happened this term…"
Walter Novellino: "You can’t be at your best all of the time when there are so many games to play. We got an excellent result, thanks to some good football in the second half. Parma certainly don’t deserve their current Serie A ranking. They played with their heart and I’m disappointed for Beretta."

Udinese 1-2 Lecce
Serse Cosmi: "We didn’t deserve to lose when you consider our difficulties at this moment in time. It was a different kind of defeat to the one against Barcelona as we went on to the pitch with the right spirit. We were punished on the two occasions that they created in our penalty area."
Silvio Baldini: "Our League position wasn’t a happy one and these points will improve our morale. Vucinic? I’ll say it publicly – things have gone much better for him since he has started acting like a ‘normal’ person again. Things are starting to go well again."
