AC Milan's Shevchenko denies touchline row with Ancelotti
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

AC Milan striker Andrei Shevchenko has explained his actions after it appeared he was unhappy about being substituted in the weekend's win over Cagliari.

The Ukraine international appeared to confront coach Carlo Ancelotti about the decision, but yesterday explained: "I wasn't angry with the substitution, far from it. I was happy as it meant Pippo Inzaghi was going on.

"All I was doing was talking to Ancelotti about what he had wanted me to do. He wanted me to hold onto the ball in their half, but I was finding it difficult as I wasn't getting the support from midfield.

"That was all it was."

Fiorentina coach demands more from Bojinov, Pazzini
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli has publicly criticised his two young strikers Valeri Bojinov and Giampaolo Pazzini.

Reflecting on their performances in the weekend's defeat by Lazio, Prandelli said: "I'm not saying anything I haven't already told my players to their faces.

"Up to now we have protected them. They must mature more and we will help them to do so. To beat great teams you must work hard, just like Tommaso Rocchi. This is what I ask my boys to do and with sincerity I will continue to do so."

Moratti unhappy with Veron's attack on Inter Milan pal Adriano
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti admits he is disappointed with Juan Veron's blast of teammate Adriano over his no-show for Sunday's game against Livorno.

The Argentine slated Adriano and Moratti believes the midfielder went over the top: "Veron has said things that perhaps he should've known better not to.

"I didn't know everything he said until someone just told me. We are always the last to know what's said. He has made a case more serious than what it is.

"For sure his words have not made me happy. The important thing is that the players clear the air between themselves in civil terms."

Bayern Munich's Ballack: Capello is excellent
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack has admitted his admiration for Juventus coach Fabio Capello.

"Italian football appeals to me," said Ballack, who undoubtedly be the hottest property on the market in January, "the game there is effective, but there are more attractive leagues in Spain and England.

"Juve? They are the most organized square, they do not leave space for you. Capello? He is an excellent trainer."

Juventus chief Moggi mocks Inter Milan over Adriano
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has taken a swipe at Inter Milan over Adriano's late show on Sunday.

"Cases like what has happened with Inter Milan and Adriano just would not happen at Juventus," scoffed Moggi. "The players here know that they can't step out of line.

"They know there is always someone here that will hold them to account."

Inter coach Roberto Mancini hit back last night saying: "Juve wouldn't have allowed the Adriano case to happen? Rubbish. They've gone through even worse."

Paolo Maldini's son Christian signs for AC Milan
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

The Maldini family will continue their involvement at AC Milan long after the retirement of Paolo, it has been confirmed.

Paolo's nine-year-old son Christian signed for Milan yesterday and will play for the club's junior team coached by former Milan midfielder Angelo Colombo.

Christian Maldini's first game is on Saturday against derby rivals Inter Milan.

Inter Milan's Mancini: I've always admired Cassano
tribalfootball.com - October 19, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has admitted his admiration for AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano.

"Cassano is an optimal player," said Mancini, "and someone I have always admired.

"We have only four strikers. If he became available in January I don't know if we could bring him in as a fifth forward."

Veron ponders Inter Milan exit
tribalfootball.com - October 20, 2005

Inter Milan midfielder Juan Veron has admitted he could leave at the end of this season.
"Is this my final year with the side? It could be, I'm currently reflecting on things," stated the 31-year-old.

Veron, who is a key figure in boss Roberto Mancini's plans, added that Inter's achievements this term will not be a factor in his decision.

"It won't change anything if Inter win something important or not," explained the former Boca Juniors ace.

"There are personal and family reasons to consider which have nothing to do with football at all."

Rossi not worried over new Lazio deal
tribalfootball.com - October 20, 2005

Lazio coach Delio Rossi has hinted he would happily sign a new contract with the Rome club.

Rossi is being widely praised for the way his Lazio team are playing this season and with his contract only running to June, it's been suggested he could be courted by rival clubs if president Claudio Lotito doesn't act fast.

"I usually consider my situation every six months," said Rossi. "But if I find myself happy, then I could also stay for life.

"Here at Lazio I am, indeed, happy. But my contract situation isn't a problem and I do not want it to become one. Even if my contract is allowed to expire, I would not have a problem with that."

Abbiati puts hands up for Juventus howler
tribalfootball.com - October 20, 2005

Juventus goalkeeper Christian Abbiati accepted responsibility for his gaffe against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
The on-loan AC Milan shot-stopper said: "It was indeed my error, I was mistaken.

"I saw the ball kicked by Deisler, but I did not catch it. For me, I do not dwell on such things and consequently the mistake did not affect me at all for the rest of the game."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lecce - Juventus  - Channel4

Stadio Via Del Mare

Lecce will have to be at their best to overcome a Juventus side who are looking to make history. The Bianconeri, with a 100 per cent record in Serie A, are looking to equal their best ever start to a season when in 1985-86, Giovanni Trapattoni’s side won their first eight matches on their way to winning the Scudetto.

The Giallorossi currently sit just one point away from the relegation zone after losing five of their seven games so far. They will be hoping for a repeat of their performance in their last home tie, which saw them beat Cagliari 3-0 to record their only win of the season. They will also take heart from the fact that they have kept a clean sheet in two of their three home matches, but it will take another excellent performance from ‘keeper Vincenzo Sicignano to keep out the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Trezeguet and Alex Del Piero.

Juventus are sure to go into this game full of confidence despite their Champions League defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich on Tuesday. With seven wins out of seven, they have already built up a five point lead over second placed Milan.

The Bianconeri have won five of their seven games by a single goal, but have always looked comfortable while doing so. With such an abundance of talent up-front, the Old Lady are certainly capable of scoring more goals and Lecce will fear a huge backlash from the Turin giants after they suffered their first defeat since August in Germany.

But Juventus will once again have to do this without the injured Gianluigi Buffon, Jonathan Zebina and Alessandro Birindelli. Patrick Vieira will miss out as well and will be sorely missed after his great start to life in Serie A. Lecce will be missing a star player through long-term injury as Guillermo Giacomazzi is still out. While Gennaro Del Vecchio returns from suspension Alex Pinardi will take his place in the stands following his sending off against Reggina.

Lecce (probable): Sicignano; Cassetti, Diamoutene, Stovini, Abruzzese; Marianini, Ledesma; Konan, Valdes, Camorani; Vucinic

Juventus (probable): Abbiati; Pessotto, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta; Camoranesi, Emerson, Giannichedda, Nedved; Ibrahimovic, Trezeguet
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma - Lazio - Channel 4

The Rome derby is one of the world’s biggest rivalries and this match is set to be as hotly fought as ever. Both clubs have undergone huge changes recently and fans from the respective halves of the capital will see this game as the real test for their new look teams.

Inevitably the face-off between the two Roman icons Francesco Totti and Paolo Di Canio will draw most attention, but this year the differences between the two sides are much bigger. While the new look Roma still have a host of international stars, Lazio’s blend of youth and experience sees them go into this encounter as reluctant favourites. The Biancocelesti have won all four games at the Stadio Olimpico in 2005-06 and, even though they are technically the away side for this match, they will be hoping to continue that run.

Roma though have lost two of the three they have played in Rome and now find themselves deep into the bottom half the table. Even at this early stage of their campaign, Coach Luciano Spalletti must be starting to feel the pressure, especially as derby games can often prove to be the breaking point for an underachieving tactician.

Spalletti will once again be without the injured Leandro Cufre for this crucial tie as well as Alberto Aquilani. Lazio’s injury problems are more serious with Roberto Baronio, Matteo Sereni, Gaby Mudingayi and Felice Piccolo all missing. However, the influential Aprecido Cesar should finally be fit enough to return after his lengthy recovery.

But whoever plays, the Derby della Capitale is as entertaining for the emotional and often bizarre occurrences going on off the field as it is for the actual football, guaranteeing one of the most spectacular events in the calcio calendar.

Roma (probable): Curci; Panucci, Kuffour, Chivu, Bovo; De Rossi, Perrotta; Mancini, Totti, Taddei; Nonda

Lazio (probable): Peruzzi; Oddo, Siviglia, Cribari, Zauri; Behrami, Dabo, Liverani, Cesar; Di Canio, Rocchi

Inter Milan coach explains Adriano bench decision
tribalfootball.com - October 21, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has explained why he left Adriano out of Wednesday night's Champions League defeat against Porto.

The Brazilian was left on the sidelines for the opening 70 minutes of the crunch match.

"I think that when someone is on the bench he's not happy about it, but that's the case for Adriano, Alvaro Recoba or anyone. Adriano hadn't trained for five days, so I thought this was the best course of action," explained Mancini.

Inter Milan patron Moratti makes contact with Cassano agent
tribalfootball.com - October 21, 2005

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti has made contact with the agent of AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano.

Moratti spoke with Beppe Bozzo earlier this week as he plans a January bid for Cassano, who Roma has confirmed will be sold when the winter market opens.

Juventus are also in the frame and are prepared to offer fullback Giorgio Chiellini in a straight swap for a player who will be off contract in the summer and available for nothing.

Montella: Roma better than Lazio
Thursday 20 October, 2005
Roma’s Vincenzo Montella has spiced up the capital derby by insisting his crisis hit club are stronger than rivals Lazio.

The Biancocelesti - currently joint fourth in the standings - have collected five points more than Roma already, but the Italian maintains they are not as good as the Giallorossi.

"Lazio are in better shape than us right now as we are struggling for results and perhaps lacking the right spirit," he told Studio Sport.

"However, I have to be honest and say that they are a weaker side than we are."

The striker also took the opportunity to take a little swipe at Lazio symbol Paolo Di Canio in favour of Giallorossi hero Francesco Totti.

"Francesco is a good guy and a great player," the former Empoli and Sampdoria man commented.

"I don’t know Paolo that well. But from what I see, he is someone who provokes, even if he was a good footballer."

Roma did start the campaign with genuine hopes of finishing in the top four, yet they have collected only eight points in seven games and lost 1-0 at 10-man Empoli on Sunday.

"What are our problems? There is certainly a crisis of results, but the time has arrived for us to give our best and get our campaign back on track," Montella added.

"Our negative streak should not see us change our aim of fighting for fourth spot in the Division."

Montella, who will not play in the UEFA Cup this evening, is hoping to feature on Sunday following recent injury problems.

"Things are going much better for me and I hope to figure in the derby which is always a stimulating game," he added.

Totti misses UEFA clash
(theo channel4)
Francesco Totti will play no part in Roma’s UEFA Cup match at Tromso on Thursday as he awaits the birth of his first child.

The captain has been allowed to remain in the capital to stay close to his wife, while also being rested ahead of Sunday’s crucial derby match against Lazio.

The No 10 isn’t the only notable absentee as Vincenzo Montella, Alberto Aquilani, Antonio Cassano and Gigi Sartor are missing with injury.

Midfielder Damiano Tommasi hasn’t travelled either as he wasn’t registered in time to take part in the competition.

There is some good news though as Leandro Cufre returns following his recent thigh strain, even if it unclear whether the Argentine will start.

Tonight’s clash in Norway is seen as a must win by many following the Giallorossi’s disastrous start to the season.

They have collected just eight points from their first seven games and lost to 10-man Empoli 1-0 on Sunday.

That led to a protest by fans outside of the club’s training ground on Tuesday where numerous players were heckled by angry supporters.

"You can lose a match but never without a fight," stated boss Luciano Spalletti. "We need to get back on track in Tromso when you take into account what we did at Empoli.

"If we just do the basics well then everything else will follow."

Roma are one of three Italian teams taking part in the group stages of the UEFA Cup. Palermo face Maccabi Petach Tikva today, while Sampdoria have a rest day.

Roma squad: Alvarez, Bovo, Chivu, Curci, Dacourt, De Rossi, Doni, Greco, Mexes, Kharja, Kuffour, Mancini, Nonda, Panucci, Perrotta, Taddei, Cufre, Okaka.

Ascoli handed stadium ban
(theo channel4)
Ascoli will have to play their next two home games behind closed doors after crowd trouble following their 2-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday.

The Italian authorities have taken the step as tragedy almost struck at the Stadio Del Duca in Week 7.

A female Sampdoria fan was rushed to hospital after a firecracker was thrown into the section holding the Doria faithful.

Ambretta Piergiovanni, who was cut and could have been blinded or even killed, was hit by the missile just minutes after the game concluded.

A 16-year-old Ascoli fan, who entered the stadium towards the end of the encounter, has admitted he was responsible.

An 18-year-old boy is also facing charges as he aided the youngster in the incident.

The Bianconeri will now have to face Udinese and Fiorentina, in Week 9 and 11 respectively, without the support of any fans.

Ascoli have also been fined around £7,000.

Mancini denies cliques at Inter Milan
tribalfootball.com - October 24, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini insists there are no cliques within his playing squad.

The row over Adriano's no-show last week continues to bubble along with reports emerging that there are cliques within the squad.

Mancini said: "In the airplane there are cliques? This isn't a problem. It is normal that the Brazilians are with the Brazilians, the Argentines with the Argentines. The only thing that matters is that we succeed.

"This talk isn't worth worrying about.

"Adriano? For me, he is worth the same as Ibra at Juve and Sheva at Milan. If he's in our team we have a greater chance of winning."

Hamburg reveal Inter Milan interest for Boulahrouz
tribalfootball.com - October 24, 2005

Inter Milan are tracking Hamburg defender Khalid Boulahrouz.
Hamburg sports chief Dietmar Beiersdorf told Sports Bild: "I know that several scouts from Inter have followed our Dutch defender Boulahrouz. He can play any role in defence."

Boulahrouz is in his second season at Hamburg after moving from RKC Waalwijk for £1 million.

AC Milan coach Ancelotti: Chelsea's Mourinho best in world
tribalfootball.com - October 24, 2005

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti rates Chelsea as favourites for this season's Champions League.
"I think Europe is becoming very equal in terms of the leagues participating," said Ancelotti. "I don't believe Italian teams have dropped back, more that everything is more equal.

"For me, Chelsea are the team to beat. Why? Because they have in Jose Mourinho the best coach in the world."

Livorno coach Donadoni accepts job on line
tribalfootball.com - October 24, 2005

Livorno coach Roberto Donadoni accepts that the next three games could decide his future.

Donadoni was booed by Livorno fans after defeat against Inter Milan and also after the loss to Fiorentina. Pressure is on Livorno president Aldo Spinelli to make a decision, but Donadoni said before yesterday's clash with Reggina: "The controversies I can only put to one side.

"The game in Milan belongs to the past, an ugly past, I agree, but to me the interest is with the next game against Reggina, then with Cagliari and finally the contest with Parma.

"Three fundamental games, where we will learn who we are. We must play as we know, with great tactical intensity and above all concentration."

Galliani: AC Milan fully behind Vieri
tribalfootball.com - October 24, 2005

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani says the whole club is behind striker Christian Vieri.
"He is relaxed and has the total faith and confidence of the entire club behind him," assured Galliani before last night's clash with Palermo.

"He is working hard, holding up the ball and doing great work for his team-mates and the moment he scores that pressure will be lifted.

"There are analogies with Hernan Crespo's start last season, although I hope it won't take Vieri until November 20 to open his account! I am certain it was not a mistake to bring him to Milan."

Juventus wreck Inter Milan bid for Cassano
tribalfootball.com - October 25, 2005

Inter Milan are struggling to find an agreement with AS Roma for striker Antonio Cassano.

Inter patron Massimo Moratti wants to sign Cassano during the winter market, but his offer has fallen well short of what Roma are seeking for the striker.

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi is prepared to better any contract offer made by Inter and is determined to trump his Milan rivals.

Inter have offered £4 million, but it's emerged Moggi has an agreement with Roma dating back to when he turned down a deal for Mancini last summer.

In exchange for not signing the Brazilian, Roma agreed to keep the door open to Juve over a deal for Cassano. It's now suggested Cassano will sign a new five-year contract, but will still be sold to Juve at the end of this season for £7 million plus fullback Giorgio Chiellini or striker Adrian Mutu.

Udinese president Pozzo slates moaning players
tribalfootball.com - October 25, 2005

Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo slated his players after their defeat against Inter Milan on Sunday.
Aiming his sights at the likes of Davide Di Michele and Antonio Di Natale, who have complained about their treatment by coach Serse Cosmi, a fuming Pozzo rapped: "They must speak less and play more.

"I expected something better, above all from the players who were complaining about being seated on the bench. We gave the game away to Inter."

Juventus rival Inter Milan interest for Aguero
tribalfootball.com - October 25, 2005

Juventus have joined Inter Milan's interest in Independiente midfielder Sergio Aguero.
The 17 year-old Argentine is being scouted by Inter with a view to signing the teenager in January. However, Juve director general Luciano Moggi has also expressed interest in the midfielder in the last week.

Aguero is rated as big a talent as Barcelona starlet Lionel Messi and is a year younger than his Argentina U20 teammate.

Palermo president Zamparini blasts players after AC Milan defeat
tribalfootball.com - October 25, 2005

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini blew his top after Sunday's defeat by AC Milan.
"We concede too many goals," rapped Zamparini. "In defence there are too many problems, we seem a team not in synch with eachother.

"I would drop all the national team players. (Coach Gigi) Del Neri will stay here for a long time, but now I want to speak with him.

"Milan, for me, seemed a modest team, we were capable of beating them."

Recoba admits no Inter Milan contract talks
tribalfootball.com - October 25, 2005

Alvaro Recoba has revealed he's still to hear from Inter Milan about new contract talks.

The Uruguayan is only tied to the Nerazzurri until June 2006 and admits nothing has been decided over his future.

"I've heard reports that negotiations have started but that is not true," the South American stated.

"I haven't received any offer from the club up to now, yet there are no problems and I am at Inter's total disposal as always.

"I'll be happy to stay at this club. If that doesn't happen then I will have to find myself another location."

Inter Milan coach Mancini wants Chievo sensation Obinna

Inter Milan will recall Nigerian teenager Victor Nsofor Obinna from his loan with Chievo Verona in January.
Obinna will return to Inter as a replacement for Obefami Martins, who is required by Nigeria for next year's African Nations Cup.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini confirmed: "We will bring him back. He is genuinely a great talent."

Ex-Chelsea boss Ranieri in frame for Parma job
tribalfootball.com - October 26, 2005

Parma coach Mario Beretta has two games to save his job.

Beretta's struggling team must get results against Messina and Livorno in the coming week to give their coach breathing space as Lorenzo Sanz's takeover of Parma is completed.

If there is a change to be made, Parma sports director Oreste Cinquini favours Czech Republic coach Zdenek Zeman. However, Sanz would prefer Claudio Ranieri, who he knows well.

Much will depend on Beretta's compensation pay-out, with Zeman unlikely to demand the wages Ranieri will be seeking to return to Italian football.

Inter Milan will be without Adriano
twofootball.com

Inter Milan will play against AS Roma on Wednesday. Inter lie third on 18 points, six behind leaders Juventus, they cannot afford any slip-ups, and need to chalk up their third win in a row to keep up the pressure on the top two.

Inter will be without Brazilian striker Adriano, he will be out of action for about a week, because he injured his shoulder after falling during the 1-0 win over Udinese at the weekend.

But They have shown they can cope without Adriano before, hitting five goals past Livorno in their previous game, which the forward missed after arriving back late from a World Cup qualifier.

AC Milan, Inter ready to quit the San Siro
tribalfootball.com - October 26, 2005

AC Milan and Inter are both preparing to move away from the San Siro.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed yesterday that they are seeking to build a new stadium on the edge of the city. Galliani says it is no longer financially possible for Milan to stay at the San Siro if they're "to compete with the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich".

Meanwhile, Inter president Giacinto Facchetti also revealed: "We are also thinking of leaving. It's something we've been discussing for a long time."

Galliani said: "At the moment we raise £15 million from playing at the San Siro, Manchester United earn £80 million and Bayern Munich now will receive £35 million from their new stadium.

"The San Siro has 15 executive boxes, when the modern stadia holds 150. To generate strong returns you need a stadium that meets the demands of sport today."

Prandelli tests lone Toni
channel4.com

Fiorentina Coach Cesare Prandelli has confirmed plans to use Luca Toni as a lone striker in the Tuscan derby against Siena.

“We have difficulty sustaining the current tactical system when we’re outside the Stadio Franchi,” explained the former Parma boss. “If I do field one striker, then it is not any kind of punishment or disappointment in the performances of Valeri Bojinov and Giampaolo Pazzini. I need to find the right balance in every situation.”

The Viola have scored more than any other side in Serie A this season with 18 goals, but have also let in 11, managing just a win, a draw and two defeats on their travels.

Hitman Toni has netted half of all their goals and will be given even more room to roam in Siena, where it’s believed Stefano Fiore will move up to provide closer support, bringing Michele Pazienza in to the midfield.

“This will be a difficult game, but we are ready for it,” insisted Prandelli. “We want to give consistency to our results and our performances away from home, so that we can repay the fans for their enthusiasm. I saw my players confident and aware of the importance of this tie. Siena are a strong outfit with players of great quality like Enrico Chiesa, Tomas Locatelli and Erjon Bogdani.”

Not only is this a Tuscan derby, it is also a clash between the only two sides to have conceded in every single match so far this season. They are also the most prolific with 18 goals for the Viola and 17 by the Bianconeri, so entertainment is guaranteed.

Siena boss Luigi De Canio added: “I am sure this will be a great game between two teams who play attacking football at all times. Fiorentina have the strength to be one of the main players in this campaign and Toni is at the height of his powers, but we will not be changing our style to suit their new tactics.”

Fiorentina squad:
Bojinov, Brivio, Brocchi, Cejas, Dainelli, Di Loreto, Donadel, Fiore, Frey, Guigou, Jorgensen, Mateo, Montolivo, Pasqual, Pazienza, Pazzini, Toni, Ujfalusi, Vryzas

Palermo president slams Santoni: I'll sign new keeper
tribalfootball.com - October 26, 2005

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed he intends to sign a new goalkeeper in the January market.

"A new goalkeeper will definitely arrive in January," he stated before laying into current first choice Nicola Santoni.

"The causes behind our loss to Milan can be blamed at our defence and goalkeeper Santoni. The responsibility is just too much for him.

"Santoni wasn't ready to be the first choice goalkeeper and things haven't gone well. He's still not recovered from the mistake he made at Lazio.

"We have and are suffering from the absence of first choice goalkeeper Matteo Guardalben.

"Something certainly needs to be done as a consequence, perhaps he needs to be rested for two or three matches so that he can rediscover some tranquility."
