Italy coach: No-one can replace Totti
tribalfootball.com - October 11, 2005

Italy coach Marcello Lippi says AS Roma captain Francesco Totti is irreplaceable.
"There are no alternatives for Totti in Italy," Lippi admitted. "If we are ever forced to play without him then we will need to change our style, to 4-4-2 for example.

"Totti is a player who has been able to transform himself into a real attacker, but he always dictates the play."

Juventus chief Moggi closer to Italy post
tribalfootball.com - October 11, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi is being linked with a job with Marcello Lippi's Azzurri backroom staff.
Moggi could be offered a part-time role with Italy to take care of responsibilities at the World Cup, including commitments with FIFA, the media and also handling player issues.

Lippi and Moggi have an excellent relationship and while he won't consider leaving Juve for the national team, a part-time role would be considered positively by Moggi.

Inter Milan convinced they can land Real Madrid's Salgado
tribalfootball.com - October 11, 2005

Inter Milan lead a host of European giants chasing Real Madrid fullback Michel Salgado.

Spain international Salgado is expected to be made available by Real in January as Cicinho arrives from Sao Paulo.

Along with Inter, Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea have also been linked with Salgado, who is angry with Real's decision to sign Cicinho and is ready to move on.

Inter patron Massimo Moratti is taking advantage of his relationship with Real, which produced the triple summer signing of Luis Figo, Walter Samuel and Santiago Solari, to close in on an agreement for Salgado.

The Spaniard is seen as a long-term signing and Inter would prefer a permanent deal rather than a loan. Inter coach Roberto Mancini has admitted to Moratti he has concerns over his right-back options with Javier Zanetti the wrong side of 30 and Ze Maria failing to impress.

Cassano Refuses Two-year Deal
10/11/2005 6:08:00 AM
The Roma forward wants to sign a five-year deal.
According to the latest speculation coming from Rome, the Giallorossi have offered to Antonio Cassano a contract of two years at around 3.5 million Euros per year.

Roma have done so to be able to sell him without losing him on a free next June, but the player has refused this offer as he would prefer to remain in the Capital city side for at least the next 5 years.

If no contract is signed, Cassano might be left out of the first squad for the next matches, thus complicating his chances of ending in the Azzurri’s final list for the 2006 World Cup.

Zanetti Sends Out Warning To Juve And Brazil
10/10/2005 12:22:00 PM
Javier Zanetti will finally return to action in a couple weeks following a 40 day lay-off due to a muscle pull, and is ready to help Inter close the six point gap separating them from Juventus.
“I still feel this is the good year,” he said.

“The two defeats we suffered? In Palermo we had a bad day, while against Juve, only in the first half were we inferior to them. The six point gap doesn’t reflect the truth,” he added.

Zanetti also handed in his World Cup favorites.

“We already defeated Brazil during the qualification round. I don’t see a big difference between us and them. They are more than beatable. We have Messi, but most importantly Aimar, he is our playmaker,” he said.

“Italy and England are also favorites. I think Lippi will play a great team in the final phase. Do you see what players he has?,” he concluded.

Lapo Elkann Hospitalized For Drug Overdose
10/10/2005 3:10:00 PM
Agnelli heir and influential Juventus consultant Lapo Elkann was hospitalized this morning for what appears to be a drug overdose.
Reports indicate Elkann was admitted in a Turin hospital around 9 am this morning following an emergency call made by an unnamed woman from Lapo’s city-center apartment.

Unconfirmed statements talk about a cocaine overdose, even though the use of other, possibly stronger drugs, can’t be ruled out.

Accoring to hospital sources, Lapo’s life isn’t in danger.

Lapo is the grand-son of the late Gianni Agnelli, and is currently the marketing director of the family’s crown jewel, car company FIAT.

Even though he isn’t part of the Juventus management team, Lapo's family lineage gives him a great amount of power over the decision making for what concerns ‘La Vecchia Signora.’

Del Piero: Me Or Cassano? Both!
10/11/2005 6:10:00 AM
The Juventus forward would like to see both him and Cassano at the next World Cup.
Now that Italy has qualified for the 2006 edition of the World Cup, Marcello Lippi will have to take the decision of which players to take to Germany, and which to leave back home in Italy.

The most difficult choice seems that related to the fifth and last striker position which the media have already identified to be one between Del Piero and Cassano, something which did not go down too well with the Bianconeri’s captain.

“Someone always sponsors this little game with me. Del Piero and Cassano together? Why not?”

Italian legend Paolo Rossi declared that he would prefer the Roma player to Del Piero.

“What can I tell you? I supported him during the World Cup: if I don’t have his respect, I hope I have that of somebody else.”

Pinturicchio is expected to start on Wednesday in the last qualifying match for the Azzurri.

“My last match was against Ireland. Now I would like to celebrate my return with a goal, just like in the first leg against Moldova. It doesn’t matter that we’re already qualified, I give the right meaning to this match: when I undertake a commitment, I take it forward."

AC Milan's Nesta facing month out
tribalfootball.com - October 12, 2005

AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has been ruled out for four weeks with hand ligament damage.

The stopper has picked up ligament damage in his left hand and will require surgery to resolve the problem.

Nesta will go under the knife on Wednesday and will subsequently be out of action for the next month.

He will therefore be unavailable for the Week 10 Scudetto showdown against Juventus at the end of October.

The Italian international is likely to be ruled out for five Serie A matches and two Champions League ties

Lazio president: Cesar agreement close
tribalfootball.com - October 12, 2005

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has revealed they're close to finding an agreement with Cesar over a new deal.
The Brazilian wing-back comes off contract in the summer and Lotito said: "There is some room for us to find common ground.

"On our part, we have chosen not to sell him when opportunities came around and I hope he remembers this. Money isn't everything."

Inter Milan consider Obinna recall from Chievo
tribalfootball.com - October 12, 2005

Inter Milan are considering recalling Nigerian whizkid Obinna from his loan with Chievo in January.
Teenager Obinna is on a season-long deal at Chievo and has drawn comparisons with Diego Maradona after a stunning introduction to senior football in Italy.

Such has been his impact that Inter chiefs are considering cutting short his loan and taking him back to the San Siro to boost their attacking options in the second-half of the season - particularly with Obefami Martins committed to Nigeria's African Nations Cup campaign.

Two-match ban for Morfeo
Channel4

Parma man Domenico Morfeo has been handed a two-match ban, while Livorno’s Cristiano Lucarelli will be suspended for the clash with Inter.
The Gialloblu creative midfielder was sent off during the 3-1 defeat away to Ascoli, as he launched into a late challenge on Parola.

The Disciplinary Commission deemed it serious enough to warrant a two-game suspension, ruling him out of games with Treviso and his old club Fiorentina.

Lucarelli was also red-carded in Week 6, as he took his protests too far just 17 minutes into Livorno’s 3-2 loss to local rivals Fiorentina.

It proved to be a costly loss of temper for the Amaranto captain, who will now skip the difficult match with Inter this weekend. He has also been handed a £700 fine for insulting the referee.

The other players suspended for one game in Serie A this weekend are Siena’s Simone Vergassola, Daniele Conti of Cagliari and Lazio defender Fabio Firmani.

Meanwhile, in Serie B there has been the first implementation of video evidence to punish unsporting behaviour. Verona man Gervasoni has been given a two-match ban for using his arm to score the winner against Ternana.

Argentine axe shocks Veron  Tuesday 11 October, 2005
Channel4

Inter midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron admits that he is puzzled by his continual omission from the Argentina national squad.

Boss Jose Pekerman has again opted to ignore the playmaker despite his reasonable club form.

"I am surprised," Veron said after he wasn’t included in the squad for the World Cup qualifier against Peru.

"I logically respect the tactician, but I am shocked with the way things are going with regard to the national side.

"I play for a great team in Italy, I have two World Cups behind me and you can’t buy experience."

Veron, 30, seems unlikely to feature at the World Cup next summer but he intends to keep fighting for his country.

"Unlike others, I will never retire from international football. I will always be at the Coach’s disposal," he added.

"However, I have to be a realist too. After all, I will be 35 by the time the 2010 World Cup arrives."

Ajax's Maduro wows Juventus scout Ceravolo
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Juventus scout Franco Ceravolo has presented director general Luciano Moggi with a glowing report on Ajax midfielder Hedwiges Maduro.

Ceravolo watched Maduro turn in a superb performance against the Czech Republic in Prague on the weekend and likened the 20 year-old to former Juve midfielder Edgar Davids and ex-AC Milan great Frank Rijkaard.

Maduro's positioning and aggression in the tackle belies his young age and Ceravolo says the midfielder would have no problem with the demands of Serie A football.

Moggi knows Maduro is contracted to Juve until 2008, but at just £200,000-a-year his representatives are sure to demand a bigger deal from Ajax - particularly if he impresses in the World Cup. That is when Juve are expected to make their move.

Mazzone: Totti would make Juventus invincible
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Carlo Mazzone says his former pupil, AS Roma captain Francesco Totti, would transform Juventus into an invincible team.

Juve coach Fabio Capello has admitted he'd love to be reunited with Totti and Mazzone believes the partnership would rock Italian football.

"Francesco is the only player who could make that team stronger," said Mazzone. "In fact, he'd turn Juventus into a monstrous, unbeatable team."

Atletico Madrid's Torres aware of AC Milan interest
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Atletico Madrid captain Fernando Torres is aware of interest from AC Milan.

Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi is a big fan of the Spanish whizkid and has had vice-president Adriano Galliani make regular enquiries after El Nino over the last 18 months.

"I know AC Milan have been trying for me," said Torres. "It means that I must be playing well.

"However, for now I am only focused on Atletico and the World Cup."

Inter Milan linked with Valencia outcast Di Vaio
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Inter Milan are being linked with Valencia striker Marco Di Vaio.

Di Vaio could be made available in January after Valencia coach Quique Flores admitted the Italian wasn't part of his first team plans.

"He does some good things now and again, but he is not in my plans at this moment in time," said the Spaniard.

"I have explained all this to him in a meeting that we recently had together."

Inter are expected to move for Di Vaio, particularly with Obefami Martins committed to Nigeria's Africa Nations Cup campaign in January.

Juventus challenge Man Utd for Bayern Munich's Sagnol
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Juventus are ready to battle Manchester United for Bayern Munich fullback Willy Sagnol.

The French international is off contract in the summer and is ready to leave the Bundesliga after refusing a new Bayern contract offer.

Juve director general Luciano Moggi wants a new right-back with Giorgio Chiellini failing to convince coach Fabio Capello and ready to ask for a move away.

However, United are in the boxseat for Sagnol as they intend to bid in January for the defender. Gabriel Heinze's injury has accelerated the Premiership giants' need to sign the Frenchman.

Juve would prefer to wait until June to snap up Sagnol on a Bosman and Moggi has admitted they lack the spending power to make any significant signings during the winter market.

Palermo to land Juventus keeper Abbiati
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Palermo are set to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati at the end of his loan with Juventus.

The Sicilians have been linked with Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon, but the player's agent rubbished the reports, claiming that Palermo would be signing Abbiati instead.

Abbiati is on-loan at Juve as a replacement for Gigi Buffon, who expects to be available in December.

Inter Milan keep tabs on Cesar's contract talks
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

Inter Milan are keeping tabs on Cesar's contract talks with Lazio.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is holding talks with Cesar's agent, Gilmar Veloz, this week and while he remains confident of an agreement, the club's new wage structure could prove a stumbling block.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini has wanted to sign Cesar since his departure from the Lazio two years ago, but so far Lotito has resisted.

With Cesar's deal expiring in the summer, Mancini may finally land the Brazilian as he remains unconvinced with his options on the left-side of Inter's midfield.

AC Milan's Nesta scoffs at videogame injury claim
tribalfootball.com - October 13, 2005

AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has laughed off claims a video game addiction is to blame for his hand injury.

"I have to admit that I was a little surprised by the theory that my finger injury was caused by my passion for video games," said the defender on Milan's official website.

"Frankly I don't think the two elements can be put together, especially as this is only a hobby and not affecting my professional conduct."

Nesta has been ruled out for a month with the injury.

Juventus may be without Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this weekend because of injury.
Channel4

The pair are doubts for the Messina clash after returning from international duty with fitness problems.

Vieira was forced out of the 4-0 win over Cyprus after just 24 minutes of last night’s World Cup qualifier.

The central midfielder was already struggling with a groin problem during Saturday’s 0-0 draw in Switzerland.

"He was in some real pain, he could not go on any longer even if I’m no doctor," said Les Bleus boss Raymond Domenech.

Vieira may now not be risked for Saturday’s clash seeing as Juve have an important Champions League trip to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic may also be absent from boss Fabio Capello’s next starting teamsheet.

The giant striker netted in the 3-1 win over Iceland on Wednesday but is thought to have aggravated a knee injury.

The striker picked up the initial problem following Marco Materazzi’s horror challenge during the 2-0 win over Inter in Week 6.

There are also still doubts over David Trezeguet’s fitness after he suffered a slight thigh strain in the same game.

Capello may opt to field Alex Del Piero in attack after his scintillating display against Moldova for Italy.

Capello Reveals Behind The Scenes Transfer To Juve
10/14/2005 6:34:00 AM
Goal
The Bianconeri’s mentor had told the Roma officials that he was in negotiation with the Old Lady.
Former Giallorosso Sports Director, Franco Baldini, now football pundit on Sky Sport, interviewed Fabio Capello, and asked him what the official version why he left Roma was.

“I have always told you, all the negotiations I had, therefore I officially declare it. You just have to re-conform it,” declared Capello.

“With Juventus it was all done in a moment. I warned you on Tuesday when we spoke about Mexes. I had received a phone call the previous day and I said: on Friday I’m meeting Juventus. On the phone the conversations were quite positive…”

Parma chief: Sanz will decide Frey future
tribalfootball.com - October 14, 2005

Parma director general Oreste Cinquini admits the future of Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey is in the hands of new owner Lorenzo Sanz.
It's been suggested Sanz may recall Frey from his loan in Florence in January and Cinquini said: "Frey's future will be decided by Sanz.

"He is one of the best goalkeepers available and it will be up to Sanz if he stays, is sold to another club or even remains with Fiorentina.

"Everyone at Parma likes the boy. If he asks us to stay in Florence, then Fiorentina will definitely have an advantage."

Juventus chief denies helping Roma in summer transfers
tribalfootball.com - October 17, 2005

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has denied claims he helped AS Roma sign Shabani Nonda and Samuel Kuffour over the summer.

"I do not want to say anything, any word can be misinterpreted or intentionally misinterpreted," said Moggi. "I have simply said that Kuffour and Nonda are two optimal players.

"They have said that I suggested them, but Roma has enough experts that can do truly good things and do not have need for my council."

Juventus coach Capello backs Nedved for Czech Republic return
tribalfootball.com - October 17, 2005

Juventus coach Fabio Capello says he would be delighted if Pavel Nedved quit international retirement and made himself available for the Czech Republic again.

"The Czech Republic has several key players out with injury at the moment and I feel it's only right for Pavel to accept the call and help his country reach the World Cup," he said.

Nedved admitted last week: "If I got called up then I could think about it.

"After all, we are only talking about two matches. I haven't been contacted yet but I may seriously consider it."

Roma coach unsure of Cassano selection

AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti says he'll respect the wishes of the club over his selection of contract rebel Antonio Cassano.

Roma management are likely to demand Spalletti leave Cassano out of his plans after dropping new contract talks with the player last week.

Spalletti said: "I will follow the line chosen by the club. However, before making a judgment on the situation I want to speak with Rosella Sensi in order to understand what has happened.

"We have plans and we must respect them. At this moment he is injured."

Inter Milan coach Mancini slams Brazil over Adriano delays
tribalfootball.com - October 17, 2005

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini is furious with the delays over Adriano's return from international duty with Brazil.

Get your Free Screensavers now!
"Playing for your country is important for everyone, but at the same time it's essential to respect your club," barked Mancini.

"There are times in which a player should speak to his international Coach and ask to stay home and recuperate, especially when the games are just friendlies.

"If (Carlos) Parreira threatens to drop players from the Brazil side altogether if they make this request, then he is a dictator. He has left others alone, for example resting Ronaldo for the Confederations Cup. If a player asks to skip a friendly because he's been running to and fro for 10 months, then I don't see why that should be a problem."

Adriano was the last to make his return to Milan, as it later emerged he had been given permission to stay in Brazil until Sunday morning.

"I didn't want to rest him for the Livorno game, but I can hardly put the shadow of Adriano out there just hours after a long flight. I'd prefer to discuss these things behind closed doors and don't want to say anything more on the subject."

Livorno fullback Francesco Coco has slammed Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini.

Ahead of last night's clash, Coco, who is on-loan at Livorno from Inter, rapped: "I never had any problems at Inter with Moratti.

"But with Mancini, instead, there was never positive dialogue and I have not ever understood why I was left out.

"What I am doing now with Livorno, I could do also in the championship race with Inter."

Oddo: I thought I was leaving Lazio in summer

Lazio defender Massimo Oddo has revealed he thought he would be leaving the club in the summer.

"I can confess I would've accepted a few very impressive offers, but the conditions weren't right for the move and I was happy to stay."

Juventus chief Moggi: We're not ready for Cassano
tribalfootball.com - October 17, 2005

Juventus chief Luciano Moggi has ruled out a January move for AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano.

Cassano saw new contract talks with Roma dropped by the club last week, but Moggi won't be taking advantage of the situation when the winter market opens.

"As far as Cassano, in January nothing will happen: Cassano is the type of player that I would take in an instant, but I must also hold account of the real necessities of the team," said Moggi.

"At this moment he is not experiencing a good moment, but that does not mean he can't return to his best.

"With good methods, all players can be managed - we try to speak with our athletes and if there is a problem we try to eliminate it."

Del Piero: I'm not too old for Juventus
tribalfootball.com - October 18, 2005

Alessandro del Piero insists he is prepared to play off the bench for the good of Juventus.

After two goals last week for club and country, Del Piero said: "I am 30 year of age, that isn't old for a footballer. I've never said that I would leave if I was told to stay on the bench.

"Yes, it's been a great week for me. To score against Moldova and then again against Messina was beautiful. I am happy and very satisfied.

"I will accept a role on the bench if that's what is required of me for Juve or the national team. This is what comes from playing in such powerful teams."

tribalfootball.com - October 18, 2005

Lazio president Claudio Lotito feels confident going into the weekend's derby against Roma.

After beating Fiorentina 1-0, Lotito declared: "I feel very confident. If we tackle Roma with the same attitude we showed against Fiorentina we can win."

Lazio ace Paolo Di Canio added: "We must take our game to another level for the derby. We did well against Fiorentina, but can't rest on our laurels now."

tribalfootball.com - October 18, 2005

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon says he is delighted for Christian Abbiati.

Abbiati, on-loan from AC Milan, is filling in for Buffon as the Italy No1 recovers from injury and the keeper said: "Christian is a friend and is doing very well.

"The only problem he had was he wasn't getting the chance to demonstrate his worth."

Roma chief Prade: January sale for Cassano inevitable
tribalfootball.com - October 18, 2005

AS Roma director general Daniele Prade admits a January sale is "inevitable" for contract rebel Antonio Cassano.

"We made an important offer that Cassano did not accept," explained Prade. "As far as we are concerned, the issue is closed. It would have been the second highest wage deal at the club, second only to Francesco Totti, and it's not the kind of contract players are given nowadays."

The Italian international's current deal expires at the end of this season, so Roma must sell in the New Year transfer window if they are to get anything back from their £20m investment.

"After the statements made by director Rosella Sensi, I really think that a January sale is inevitable," added Prade.

"I will stay here until 2007, when my contract comes to an end," said Ancelotti. "and I do not exclude the possibility of staying beyond that."
