Juventus chiefs slam "farce" wiretaps
tribalfootball.com - May 7, 2006
Juventus have hit out at last week's wiretap revelations in the Italian press.
The club has refused to talk to the press since the Champions League elimination at the hands of Arsenal on April 5.
However, their chief executive Antonio Giraudo on Friday angrily reacted to press reports over the previous 48 hours.
Many of the transcripts feature phone calls involving senior Juventus director Luciano Moggi.
The transcripts have been released by Turin prosecutors to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).
Some of the phone calls have featured Moggi and Pierluigi Pairetto, a former referee who until recently worked as "designatore" - the man who appoints referees to officiate in individual matches.
Giraudo, in remarks reported by
www.gazzetta.it, said: "Once again Juve and their directors have been subjected to a trial-by-media that has no precedent in the history of football.
"I have read that the reason we have not been speaking to the press has been out of fear, which is a false and incredible allegation."
Giraudo said: "I ask for what reason these intercepts have been given to the press and not first of all to us and our lawyers: we only found out about it from the newspapers.
"It's incredible that a man's fundamental human rights can be held in so low regard."
Moggi dismissed the claims, saying: "It's all a farce. Ask yourselves why they have done this just before we win a Scudetto we truly deserve."
