Capello wants 3 more years at Juventus
tribalfootball.com - March 26, 2006

Fabio Capello is ready to sign a new contract after Juventus confirmed the continuity of the Triade last week.

Directors Roberto Bettega, Antonio Giraudo and Luciano Moggi are all staying on and Capello said yesterday: "It would appeal to me to remain another three years here and then leave to train a national team - England would be indeed a great honor.

"I'm very happy in Turin, it's a very good job. I have an optimal squad and an optimal relationship with all.

"I know we can still win many important things."

Inter Milan coach ready to axe Adriano
tribalfootball.com - March 26, 2006

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini admits he may axe Adriano after yesterday's defeat at Parma.

L'Imperatore was very disappointing during Inter's 1-0 defeat at the Stadio Tardini this afternoon, raising more questions on his fitness levels and confidence.

"There is no problem and there would be no problem if we decided to leave Adriano out for a game or two," pointed out the Nerazzurri Coach. "There are many strikers here and all of them are talented."

Messina Sack Mutti

The Giallorossi failed to beat Udinese and are currently still in the relegation zone.
The President of Messina, Pietro Franza, took the decision of sacking Bortolo Mutti to try and save the team from relegation.

The favourite to take over is former Cagliari coach Giampiero Ventura who will have the difficult task to lead the Sicilian side to safety.

Capello Promises Great Match Against Arsenal

Juventus are ready for the Champions League London clash.
Following the draw achieved at home against Roma, the Bianconeri are ready to get back to winning ways starting off from the delicate encounter against Arsenal in the Uefa Champions League.

“We’re going to London to play a great match. Having played with ten men on a sandy pitch, which is not the best possible thing, we shall make more effort, however in the game against Arsenal, tiredness does not matter.

“I was pleased with the team against Roma, even though it’s a pity to suffer a goal like that, from a set piece.

“We are bitter about it, but from this game we shall leave for London convinced of doing very well because I saw a tonic and determined team."
The defender's agent, Issa Traore, said: "If it was up to me, I'd take him to Milan. Barcelona are also trying for him."

No regrets for Vieira over Juve move
(theo World Soccer News)

Patrick Vieira returned to Highbury insisting he'd no regrets regarding his pre-season move from Arsenal to Juventus.

The French international, who is set to start Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg against his old employers, spent nine years in north London and led Arsenal to some of their most memorable triumphs.

Vieira, 29, accumulated three Premiership titles and three FA Cups after moving from AC Milan in 1996 but severed his ties with the Gunners in 2005 with a 13.7 million pounds transfer to the Stadio della Alpi.

The Senegal-born midfielder is still revered at Highbury, but he is refusing to allow nostalgia to cloud his focus as he prepares to confront his former manager and mentor Arsene Wenger.

"When you spend nine years anywhere and win so much, do so well and make so much history, you are very proud," Vieira told reporters. "But I never regret any decision that I make.

"I have no nerves at all and I think I have enough experience to deal with the game: the emotions can come afterwards.

"I know what to expect and my only focus is to win the match and play well so we can qualify for the semi-finals. I only think on Juventus. Ever since pre-season, I have only thought about what I can achieve with them."

Vieira was reluctant to dwell on his emotions at returning to the club he led so impressively and for so long.

He appeared ill at ease when asked to describe how he felt at walking into Highbury as an opposition player and at one point curtly dismissed a question relating to his Arsenal career with the response: "That is all in the past - I don't want to talk about that".

Patrick Vieira tells the press at Highbury that he has had no regrets regarding his pre-season move Vieira from Arsenal to Juventus
But Vieira will find the past difficult to escape when he returns to this famous old stadium on Tuesday night.

Pictures of him celebrating league and cup triumphs adorn the walls at Highbury, including one of Vieira scoring the last, decisive penalty in the shoot-out which settled the 2005 FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

It was his final act in an Arsenal shirt: eight weeks later, he left for Serie A.

Arsenal initially struggled to cope with the loss of their talismanic leader but the shoots of recovery are now beginning to show.

Wenger's team may still only be fifth in the Premiership but they have won three of their last four matches and disposed of Real Madrid in the first knockout stage of the Champions League.

"I am a bit surprised that they haven't done better this season because they have the quality and the players to do well," added Vieira. "But the season is long and there are many games to go yet.

"They are a very good side and they are playing well at the moment but we just have to show that we are better."

Juventus manager Fabio Cappello, who revealed right-back Jonathan Zebina would be fit to start on Tuesday, admitted he would call upon Vieira's intimate knowledge of Arsenal in a bid to reach the last four.

"Arsenal have many good players,"but of course Patrick Vieira can always help me," he said.

"I believe every side at this stage of the Champions League is a very good one. Arsenal are a very good attacking side, especially with Thierry Henry, and it will be difficult."

Juventus ace Del Piero gutted to miss Arsenal trip
tribalfootball.com - March 28, 2006

Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero has sent a message to Arsenal: 'I'll see you in Turin!'.

Del Piero is a big admirer of Arsenal and their manager Arsene Wenger and is gutted that he will miss tonight's Champions League clash at Highbury.

"I have a slight thigh injury and will spend the day having it examined to check on the extent of the damage," said Del Piero.

"I am very disappointed at not being able to play at Arsenal's Highbury stadium before they move to their new ground. But I have a message for the Gunners: I'll see you in Turin!"

Ancelotti: AC Milan not giving up Scudetto race
tribalfootball.com - March 28, 2006

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti insists the Scudetto race isn't over.

Although there are only seven games of the campaign left, Ancelotti is well aware that the seemingly impossible could happen.

"There is a slim chance," he told TG5 on Monday afternoon. "That's because anything can happen in this game.

"I was taught that at Juventus myself when my side were nine points clear with eight games left and we ended up coming second to Lazio."

Nevertheless, Ancelotti is shelving his Scudetto ambitions for now given that they travel to Lyon in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"Serie A is not in our minds right now, we are being stimulated by our next game against Lyon in Europe," continued Carletto.

"This is a crucial time of the season and we must just focus on doing well and continuing our run of good results."

Capello still believes in semi-final
Tuesday 28 March, 2006
Fabio Capello claims he still has faith in Juve’s chances of reaching the Champions League semi-finals, but bitterly criticised his hot-headed stars.

“It was a balanced first half and we conceded a goal we could’ve easily avoided. The same applies to the second and it’s something that’s happening a lot lately,” said the Coach after tonight’s 2-0 defeat against Arsenal.

The Bianconeri ended the game in nine men after both Mauro Camoranesi and Jonathan Zebina committed second bookable offences.

“What really disappoints me the most are the red cards, as these are things a team like Juventus cannot accept. We will have a little chat, because mistakes of this kind are unacceptable. I think Zebina’s second was a little bit over the top from the referee, as it wasn’t an ugly foul. Nonetheless, we should be more careful.”

The 2-0 result at Highbury means that Juve must win 3-0 at the Delle Alpi on April 5 to reach the final four, but will be playing without the suspended Patrick Vieira, Camoranesi, Zebina and probably still injured Alessandro Del Piero.

“It’s a heavy scoreline, but now we must focus on Treviso and think about that later,” noted Capello. “The truth is we had three or four chances to shoot and Kolo Toure performed some crucial tackles, but I guess it is the right result on the night. We tried to play the ball, at times went for the long ball, but we conceded the goal because we weren’t set out in the right positions. It had been a totally even game up until then.”

The former Milan and Real Madrid tactician also analysed why Juve were so comprehensively limited in London.

“Arsenal were constantly doubling up on our wide men and Jose Antonio Reyes was acting almost as a full-back, so it was difficult to push down the flanks. We couldn’t get the final pass through for one reason or another, whereas Arsenal did achieve that a few times. They play on the counter-attack and have remarkable pace when they burst forward from their own half like that with Henry as the lone striker. I think we will be able to change some things and do better in Turin. The pitch is a problem, but we’ll have to try to make it work in our favour.”

Capello has not lost hope of his first Champions League trophy since Milan thrashed Barcelona 4-0 in 1994.

“We need to have faith and I always do. We’ll play with determination and grit. I have to say Arsenal had something extra in terms of physical stamina after essentially resting for 10 days. I’ve seen them play a few times and a defence is solid when everyone works hard to cover for them, which they do effectively right now.”

Chelsea's Crespo favours Inter Milan return
tribalfootball.com - March 29, 2006

Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo admits he misses Italy and Serie A football.

However, while the Argentine has been linked with a return to AC Milan next season, he admits city rivals Inter are the club he favours.

"My heart for the challenge at the San Siro is with Inter," said Crespo when asked about the Milan derby. "I've never forgotten the year with the Nerazzurro.

"And goodness knows I would love to experience that again in the future ..."

However, Crespo was quick to add he was contracted to Chelsea until 2008.

Roma's Totti: Comeback ahead of schedule
tribalfootball.com - March 29, 2006

Roma captain Francesco Totti has revealed his rehab from a broken ankle is ahead of schedule.

The Roman returned to the training field just a month and two days after picking up the break in a match against Empoli, as he aims to be fit for the summer.

"I have a great desire to be a part of the World Cup Finals because they are very important to me," Totti told Sky Italia.

"My rehabilitation programme is going really well, I'm ahead of schedule and the ankle is responding well."
-----------------------
Treviso - Juventus      (Channel4)

Juventus will be confident of a win when they travel to Treviso’s Omobono Tenni Stadium. There can hardly be a more David and Goliath encounter in Serie A this season as top meets bottom. Both teams can be fairly certain of their final position this year even if one will be far happier about that than the other. While La Vecchia Signora is sitting on an eight point lead over second place, the Biancocelesti need to catch a massive 14 point gap to have a chance of staying in the top flight.

However, Treviso could not have asked for a better time to face the Turin giants. Fellow relegation candidates Messina and Parma have both picked up draws against Juve, proving they are not as invulnerable as once thought.

The Biancocelsti’s main problem has been a lack of goals as Walter Baseggio’s strike is the only one they have scored in their last four outings. It may seem like a tall order, especially with Antonio Filippini out through suspension, but the minnows need at least a point here if they are to have any chance of a second Serie A campaign next season.

Juventus will be expecting a win against the Division’s bottom side and will want to erase the memory of Roma’s late equaliser in their last match. That goal reduced their lead at the top to eight points but Juve are still the clear favourites to claim the Scudetto.

The main problem for the Old Lady here will be their crucial upcoming Champions League fixture with Arsenal. After losing the first leg 2-0, the next game is one they must win and that could work against them here. Pavel Nedved is suspended for this match following his red card against Roma and Alessandro Del Piero’s injury will keep him out of this encounter as well.

Treviso: Zancope; Maggio, Cottafava, Viali, Dossena; E Filippini, Baseggio, De Martino, Vascak; Borriello, Beghetto

Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Chiellini; Camoranesi, Vieira, Emerson, Mutu; Ibrahimovic, Trezeguet

Chelsea make new contact with Juventus ace Ibrahimovic
tribalfootball.com - March 30, 2006

Chelsea have made contact with the agent of Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Swede has emerged as a major target for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich after receiving little encouragement from the advisors of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Abramovich has held talks with Ibra's agent Mino Raiola and is well aware that the young forward has still not signed a new, long-term contract - despite agreeing terms some weeks ago.

Chelsea have shelved negotiations with Juve for now while they're involved in the Champions League, but will step up their pursuit once the Italian club's European campaign is over.
-----------------
Perrotta Reveals Fiorentina Contacts

The Roma midfielder was wanted by Cesare Prandelli during the last summer transfer market.
Simone Perrotta revealed that he might have been a Viola player this season as there were contacts with the Tuscan club this past summer.

“There were some contacts this summer, but I remained here and I’m happy with how things went."

Now, the Italian international will face Fiorentina on Sunday in what might be a decisive match for the fourth place in Serie A.

“We shall go there to win. We are the emblem of the team which knows how to play without strikers, but I’m happy that Totti today started running again.”
------------------------------
Fined Camoranesi up for sale
Thursday 30 March, 2006
Mauro German Camoranesi is reportedly set for a summer exit after Juventus fined him almost £30,000 for his dismissal against Arsenal on Tuesday.

The Argentine infuriated club officials during the 2-0 Champions League defeat for firstly being sent-off and then ironically applauding the Highbury crowd.

Clearly disgusted by those actions which have damaged the Juventus brand, the Old Lady will now force the Italian international to dig deep into his pockets.

Camoranesi has had a difficult campaign at the Stadio Delle Alpi and Tuesday’s incident was just the latest demonstration that he can lose his cool in the heat of a game.

It now seems almost certain that the former Verona player will be sold at the end of the current campaign.

Boss Fabio Capello has concerns over his temperament and has actually substituted him twice this season just minutes after throwing him on as a substitute.

Juventus have already made an initial step to replace him by securing the services of winger Marco Marchionni once his Parma deal expires in the summer.

It is also no secret that the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit are looking to bring in another wide midfielder for the new campaign.

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been constantly linked recently, while they could renew their interest in Roma’s Amantino Mancini after having a bid rejected last August.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Zebina – another player likely to be sold – has also been fined by Juventus for his red card against Arsenal, even if his was nowhere near the £30,000 mark

Juventus director Giraudo confirms deal for Inter Milan's Zanetti
tribalfootball.com - April 2, 2006

Juventus director Antonio Giraudo has revealed they have a deal for Inter Milan midfielder Cristiano Zanetti.

Zanetti is off contract at the end of this season and has long been linked with Juve this season. Giraudo said: "Every signing we make is made to strengthen the team.

"The board has already given confirmation of our budget and the transfer movements have begun with the agreements for Marchionni and Cristiano Zanetti."

On his own future, Giraudo added: "My great dream is to stay with Juventus. We want to make Juve into the most important club in the world.

"We want to be a class apart from everyone, similar to Ferrari in F1 racing."

AC Milan coach Ancelotti admits testy Shevchenko relationship
tribalfootball.com - April 2, 2006

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti admits he doesn't have a close relationship with striker Andrei Shevchenko.

"Sheva has a contract with Milan and, even if every now and then he argues with the Coach, he is happy to stay," said Ancelotti after reports there was a deal in place with Chelsea.

The Ukrainian striker has been spotted exchanging terse words with Ancelotti in some cases, but all parties involved have denied he wants to leave the club.

"At times we go over the top, but we understand each other. He knows when I am exaggerating and vice versa, then we always end up joking about it."

Villarreal push Juventus for Tacchinardi agreement
tribalfootball.com - April 2, 2006

Inter and AC Milan's bid for Schalke 04's Christian Poulsen has led Villarreal to seek a permanent deal for on-loan Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinari.

Villarreal had an agreement in place to take Poulsen on a Bosman in the summer, but interference from the two Milan clubs have scuppered their hopes.

Instead, Villarreal are now in negotiations to make Tacchinardi's stay permanent at the end of this season.

Capello: Juventus can overhaul Arsenal
tribalfootball.com - April 2, 2006

Juventus coach Fabio Capello insists his players won't be affected by the negative press ahead of this week's Champions League return-leg against Arsenal.

Juve have been slated for their display in the 2-0 defeat at Highbury, but Capello said after his team's 0-0 draw at Treviso: "I don't really read the newspapers or watch television, so I always tell my players to focus on what's happening on the pitch. My only regrets about the first leg was playing a good first half and yet going into the break 1-0 down.

"I am the first to say we allowed Arsenal some chances in the second half that were easily avoidable. Evidently we weren't concentrated or determined enough."

The Bianconeri will be without the suspended Jonathan Zebina, Patrick Vieira and Mauro Camoranesi when they welcome Arsenal to the Delle Alpi in a bid to overturn that 2-0 defeat.

"We know what we have to do and that is create some problems for them. Arsenal have a great counter-attacking system with quality and pace. It's a difficult task, but it depends on how things go. We must go forward and be wary of their ability to hit us on the break."

Nedved denies slating Juventus teammates
tribalfootball.com - April 3, 2006

Juventus and Pavel Nedved have denied quotes attributed to him in the English Sunday press yesterday.

Juve and Nedved released a statement denying the story, in which the midfield veteran slated his teammates for their performance against Arsenal last week.

"That performance was nothing short of a disgrace - I think some players need to take a good look at themselves and should feel ashamed," Nedved told the Sunday Mirror.

"Arsenal made us look ordinary in every department and we only have Gianluigi Buffon to thank that we are still in the tie - without him we'd have been dead and buried.

"It was frustrating and humiliating to watch. I didn't recognise the team that played."

He added: "Now I feel completely let down by my team-mates."

Roma's Mexes accuses Fiorentina fans of racist chants
tribalfootball.com - April 3, 2006

Roma defender Philippe Mexes has accused Fiorentina fans of racist chants against teammates Ollie Dacourt and Stefano Okaka.

After yesterday's 1-1 draw, Mexes said: "At the end of the game, we went over to the Roma fans to throw our shirts into the crowd.

"It was great, but then some Fiorentina fans began making racist insults towards Dacourt and Okaka. Missiles were thrown and this angered me.

"We must try to stop this sort of thing."

Juventus chief Moggi: No Ibrahimovic fine
tribalfootball.com - April 3, 2006

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi says striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be fined for his touchline bust-up with coach Fabio Capello.

Ibra's row with Capello over being substituted against Treviso sparked fresh speculation about the Swede's future in yesterday's press.

But Moggi says: "A fine? No. He was only angry about being substituted with time being left on the clock. It's something that happens and soon everything will go back to normal."

Shevchenko: I want to stay with AC Milan for life
tribalfootball.com - April 3, 2006

AC Milan striker Andrei Shevchenko has declared he wants to play out his career at the club.

"Anything can happen in football, but my aim is to stay with the Rossoneri for life," he told Bild last weekend.

Chelsea had reportedly agreed a £35 million deal with Milan to bring him to Stamford Bridge, but Sheva and club chiefs were quick to laugh off the reports yesterday.

AC Milan close in on Roma's Mexes
tribalfootball.com - April 3, 2006

AC Milan could bring plans forward to sign Roma defender Philippe Mexes.

Milan have identified Mexes as a long-term target, but Roma's need to sell one of it's stars to fund their summer transfer kitty has them discussing a bid for the Frenchman.

Roma want to raise cash to fund a bid for a new striker, with Mirko Vucinic (Lecce) and Vincenzo Iaquinta (Udinese) high on their shopping list.

Well covered in defence, Mexes is being considered as the player to be sold when the close-season transfer window opens.

Milan want a replacement for the Ajax-bound Jaap Stam and after being priced out of a deal for Lyon's Cris and cooling their interest in Palermo stopper Andrea Barzagli are ready to move for Mexes.

Juventus strike deal for Sampdoria veteran Antonioli
tribalfootball.com - April 5, 2006

Juventus have agreed a deal with Sampdoria goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli.

The 36 year-old veteran has played for Juve coach Fabio Capello at AC Milan and Roma and will move to Turin on a Bosman in June.

Antonioli joins Juve as understudy to No1 Gigi Buffon, which will allow Antonio Mirante to continue his development on-loan at Siena next season.

Roma chiefs dismiss Real Madrid link for Chivu
tribalfootball.com - April 5, 2006

Roma director general Daniele Prade has rubbished reports that defender Cristian Chivu is on the verge of agreeing a deal with Real Madrid.

Last night, Prade declared: "I refute all claims of negotiations with Real Madrid for Chivu.

"After the Easter vacations, we will meet with Becali (manager of the player), in order to renew his contract."

Roma chief Bruno Conti also said: "It's good that great clubs are interested in Chivu. But I want to make clear that we will not consider selling him."
------------------------
Juventus - Fiorentina      (Channel4)

While this fixture is always the bitterest of derbies it will have added significance for Fiorentina who travel to the Stadio Delle Alpi only one point ahead of Roma in the battle for a Champions League spot.

Barring a miracle the Scudetto belongs to the Old Lady. Despite stuttering to a stalemate with rock-bottom Treviso last weekend, Fabio Capello's men moved nine points clear thanks to Milan's unexpected slip-up at Lecce. In truth the major concern in Turin has been the Champions League for the last few weeks since the Bianconeri held Milan and virtually clinched title No 29, but the passionate hatred of the Gigliati will ensure no apathy is shown here.

Fiorentina have had a dream season but must keep going to the wire if they are to wake up next term with a Champions League place. Last weekend's showdown with Roma finished all-square, but Cesare Prandelli will be a little concerned that the Viola were second best for long periods. Roma secured a point against the champions elect in Week 31, the Gigliati know that they must at least do the same if they are to keep their fate in their hands.

Jonathan Zebina is out with a big toe injury and Fabio Cannavaro is suspended. Capello must wait and see whether Alessandro Del Piero is available.

Prandelli has no new injury worries ahead of the trip to Turin. Sebastien Frey and Michele Pazienza are out for the remainder of the season and Guilherme Do Prado's chances of featuring this term are also slim.

Juventus: Buffon; Zambrotta, Thuram, Kovac, Chiellini; Camoranesi, Vieira, Emerson, Nedved; Ibrahimovic, Trezeguet

Fiorentina: Lobont; Ujfalusi, Kroldrup, Dainelli, Pasqual; Fiore, Brocchi, Donadel, Jorgensen; Jimenez, Toni

The Italian striker scored his 27th goal of the season for the Viola against Juventus, a feat which no other Fiorentina player ever managed.

“I’m happy for the record, I feel a nice sensation. Having the possibility of reaching this target means that all of the team did very well.”

Toni, along with his team-mates performed extremely well against Juventus, in a match which ended 1-1.

“We played a great first half. We had many chances, maybe we could have finalized more. Then in the second half Juventus came out, which is a great team.”

"I am certain I'll never coach in the future."

Roma still to deal in Tommasi
tribalfootball.com - April 9, 2006

The agent of midfielder Damiano Tommasi admits Roma are still to make an offer to the Italy international.

Andrea Pretti revealed: "Roma haven't given us any clues on Tommasi's future. Damiano has been clear, he will only discuss his new contract after the end of the season on May 14."

The much-loved midfielder suffered a knee injury in the summer of 2003 that nearly put an end to his career and agreed to return to the Olimpico for the basic salary of just £1,000 per month.

"I remember all too well that two years ago Damiano agreed a contract that was never seen again," added the agent. "If that had been completed, then Tommasi would be in a very different situation right now."

London appeals to Del Piero, where he can count on Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as a long time admirer. The Italy international could join the Gunners as a replacement for the retiring Dennis Bergkamp.

A deal for Del Piero would also go some way to convincing Thierry Henry of Arsenal's ambitions as they begin a new era next season at the Emirates stadium.
