Arsenal closer to unsettled Del Piero
tribalfootball.com - March 12, 2006

Arsenal are again being linked with Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero.

Despite his public utterances, Del Piero is frustrated by his limited role under coach Fabio Capello and it's emerged today he will consider his future in Turin should he continue to be played off the bench.

Del Piero faces being branded a 'super-sub' and admitted only last week: "I want people to know me for more than being able to come off the bench to change a game."

If he is to leave Juve, Del Piero will seek a move to London where he knows he is admired by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The Italian would be the perfect replacement for Dennis Bergkamp, who is retiring at the end of the season.

Any hint of Del Piero being unsettled will kickstart Arsenal's board into action. The Gunners are desperate to land a big name to celebrate their move to the club's new Emirates stadium next season.

Moratti: Ronaldinho wanted Inter Milan move
tribalfootball.com - March 12, 2006

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti has revealed he could've signed Barcelona star Ronaldinho early in his career.

Moratti admitted last night: "No, I do not regret that we failed to sign Ronaldinho. We had a chance, once, when a club came to me in mind to exchange him for a player that we had.

"The president of the club where he played was in agreement, as was Ronaldinho, but their coach refused.

"Therefore it never happened, but it wasn't down to us."

Roma coach Spalletti denies crisis talk
tribalfootball.com - March 12, 2006

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has waved away concerns of a crisis after a recent dip in form.

Spalletti insists Roma have not lost their way after the end of their incredible winning streak, although they face a tough test at Ascoli.

"I don't see my team any different in their attitudes and approach to games," assured the Coach. "Clearly we can and must do better."

The Giallorossi set a new all-time Serie A record with 11 straight wins, but the 1-1 draw with Inter and the midweek 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough showed signs of tiredness.

Juventus coach Capello can't see AC Milan move for Giraudo
tribalfootball.com - March 12, 2006

Juventus coach Fabio Capello can't see club director and good friend Antonio Giraudo moving to AC Milan next season.

"I just can't see he and Adriano Galliani working at the same club," said Capello. "They would both have to agree to their roles, which they fulfil in a similar way at both clubs.

"They would be getting in eachother's way."

Juventus confident beating AC Milan for Palermo's Barzagli
tribalfootball.com - March 12, 2006

Juventus are confident of beating AC Milan for Palermo centre-half Andrea Barzagli at the end of the season.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is fielding enquiries from both clubs, but Juve have the upperhand where director general Luciano Moggi has discussed a swap deal involving Fabrizio Miccoli.

Miccoli will not be signed permanently by Benfica as the Portuguese club cannot afford Juve's £4 million asking price. The striker has no future at Juve and instead will be used as a makeweight in a deal for Barzagli in the summer.

AC Milan use Foggia, Abbiati in offer for Roma's Chivu
tribalfootball.com - March 13, 2006

AC Milan are moving for Roma defender Cristian Chivu.

Milan chiefs have chosen to revive their push for the Romania international after failing to talk Lyon down from their £8 million asking price for Brazilian defender Cris.

Milan are ready to offer cash plus one of Pasquale Foggia or Christian Abbiati in exchange for Chivu. Winger Foggia is on-loan at Ascoli this season, but will return to Milan in June - just as keeper Abbiati will from his time at Juventus.

The trump card Milan could play is patron Silvio Berlusconi's negotiations with Roma over a new TV deal involving Mediaset.

Mediaset are due to pour £80 million into the coffers of Roma and during negotiations Berlusconi could secure an agreement over Chivu.

Mourinho is Nedved admirer (Channel4)
Monday 13 March, 2006
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that his dream of signing Pavel Nedved will never be realised.

The Juventus player is a firm favourite of the Portuguese tactician even if he admits that the Czech Republic ace would be an unlikely addition to his Blues squad.

“I have been watching Nedved for some time,” stated the former Porto boss. “Despite his age, he is still one of the best players around. He has great talent.

“However, I don’t think that Nedved wants to play for Chelsea. I believe it is his intention to end his career at Juventus.”

The 33-year-old has had a highly successful stint at the Stadio Delle Alpi since leaving Lazio in 2001.

The former Golden Ball winner is unlikely to quit the Old Lady for London after recently extending his contract until 2008.

Toldo rejected Viola option (Channel4)
Monday 13 March, 2006
Francesco Toldo has expressed his relief after he rejected a summer move to Fiorentina in order to fight for a place at Inter.

The goalkeeper was linked with a return to the Viola after the Nerazzurri signed Julio Cesar from Chievo for the new campaign.

Although that resulted in the veteran spending some time on the bench, he’s recently returned in between the sticks with some fine displays.

“I was one step away from joining Fiorentina, but leaving here like that would have been a defeat for me,” he told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“I spoke with boss Roberto Mancini in August and got a few things clear. I respect him and his ideas.

“That’s also the case with Julio Cesar, a young player with real quality and one who I admire a lot.”

Toldo was once an untouchable figure at the San Siro, but has had to get used to life on the bench over the last two seasons.

“I’m not guaranteed a starting shirt and it was a new experience for me to be a reserve, even if there are more serious issues in the world,” continued Toldo.

“I have now returned to the team and doing well, even if my teammates also deserve some praise for that. My decision to stay here was a good one.”

The 35-year-old, who recently extended his contract at the club until 2009, has impressed so much that there is even talk that he could win a recall to the Italian squad for the 2006 World Cup.

“If Marcello Lippi called then I wouldn’t reject that option, even if the squad seems to have already been consolidated,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, President Giacinto Facchetti has also been pleased with the form of the Euro 2000 hero.

“He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” he stated. “He made two greats saves against Sampdoria on Saturday night.

“It’s no coincidence that there is talk that he could be a part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup squad in Germany.”

Livorno - Juventus      Stadio Picchi (Channel4)

Livorno desperately need to find form if they are to avoid dropping back into mid-table and could hardly have picked a worse time to meet champions elect Juventus at the Stadio Armando Picchi.

The Granata enjoyed a superb first half of the season but lost momentum in January and have struggled even more since Roberto Donadoni's shock departure. Defeats against Cagliari and Parma have allowed Lazio to move within two points and have put the pressure firmly on Carlo Mazzone. The experienced tactician will need all his tactical nouse to earn even a share of the spoils here; Donadoni may still get the last laugh.

Fabio Capello's main task is keeping his side's minds on the job. After last weekend's stalemate with Milan the Scudetto is almost certainly theirs and it will be tough to keep his players' thoughts from the Champions League. However, the Old Lady know that it is far from impossible to lose a 10 point lead and that it would prove catastrophic.

Don't be surprised to see a Juventus spot kick. Livorno have the dubious honour of leading Serie A in penalties conceded with nine - one every four matches.

Mazzone - who felt his side were unlucky against Parma - has a striker crisis. Fourteen-goal forward and local hero Cristiano Lucarelli is hoping for a miracle but a right thigh injury looks almost certain to keep him out while Raffaele Palladino is unavailable and won't have the chance to impress the club that own him. Diego De Ascentis is injured but David Balleri is back after a knee problem. Dario Passoni is suspended after picking up a yellow card last weekend.

Robert Kovac, Gianluca Zambrotta, Alessandro Birindelli and Marcelo Zalayeta are injured. Mauro Camoranesi has suffered a recurrence of an old calf injury but looks likely to start. Ex-Livorno defender Giorgio Chiellini is suspended. While Capello rewarded his men with an extra day of rest after last week's successes, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been staying behind in training to work on his wayward finishing.

Livorno: Amelia; Grandoni, Vargas, Galante; Pfertzel, Morrone, Ruotolo, Argilli, Coco; Colucci, Bakayoko

Juventus: Buffon; Zebina, Thuram, Cannavaro, Balzaretti; Camoranesi, Vieira, Emerson, Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet

Roma to clinch deal for AC Milan's Jankulovski
tribalfootball.com - March 15, 2006

Roma are set to sign AC Milan wing-back Marek Jankulovski on-loan for next season.

Jankulovski has endured a difficult first campaign at the San Siro since his £7m move from Udinese in the summer.

The Czech Republic international joined the club just months after breaking his ankle and has failed to subsequently prove himself with the Rossoneri.

Milan are now ready to offer the player a chance of regular first team football by allowing him to play for the Giallorossi next season.

It's unclear at this stage whether Roma will also be handed an option to buy the wing-back outright in the summer of 2007.

Vieri: No regrets over Inter Milan exit
tribalfootball.com - March 15, 2006

Monaco striker Christian Vieri insists he has no regrets over his controversial move from Inter to AC Milan in the summer.

"After six years, I was unhappy at Inter and decided I must leave," said Vieri. "There was no problems with (coach Roberto) Mancini, I never had problems with him.

"I left because I needed to play with continuity."

Juventus pressing for Lyon's Clerc
tribalfootball.com - March 15, 2006

Juventus are keeping in contact with the representatives of Lyon fullback Francois Clerc.

The young Frenchman is off contract in the summer and has received an offer from Juve director general Luciano Moggi about next season.

However, Clerc is seeking first team guarantees and though he would arrive at Juve as a direct replacement for Jonathan Zebina, Moggi cannot promise he will be first-choice next season.

The defender also wants assurances from Juve that he won't be shipped off to another club in similar fashion to what happened to Roma pair Sammy Kuffour and Shabani Nonda last summer.

Chelsea targets Nedved, Ibrahimovic commit to Juventus
tribalfootball.com - March 16, 2006

Juventus pair Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pavel Nedved insist Roman Abramovich's money can't tempt them to Chelsea.

Ibrahimovic has been linked with a £35 million bid from Chelsea, while Blues boss Jose Mourinho admitted his admiration for Nedved only this week.

However, both players told Tuttosport today they are happy and committed to Juve. "I intend to fulfil my three years at Juve," said Nedved.

Juventus coach Capello rails against Spanish critics
tribalfootball.com - March 16, 2006

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has again distanced himself from reports linking him with a return to Real Madrid.

Capello declared: "At Juve I am very happy and under contract, but we will see what happens when this expires.

"In Spain they say that I do not play entertaining football? My teams concede little goals, but they have always scored plenty.

"At Real Madrid we played with Suker, Mijatovic, Raul, Seedorf, Victor and Roberto Carlos as a winger, that does not seem defensive play to me.

"In Spain they have memory problems because in that year we also scored a record number of goals."

tribalfootball.com - March 16, 2006

Uruguayan teenager Sebastian Ribas is on the verge of a deal with Juventus.

The 18 year-old, who holds an Italian passport, starred in the Viareggio tournament earlier this year with Juventud Montevideo, which will net around £200,000 from his transfer.

Ribas' agent, Paco Casal, has held talks with Juve director general Luciano Moggi and terms are close to being agreed.

Inter Milan keeper Toldo: Bench taught me lesson
tribalfootball.com - March 16, 2006

Inter Milan goalkeeper Francesco Toldo is delighted to be back as the club's No1.

"These months on the bench taught me to have patience and keep working hard, as it would be an important and new experience in my career," he said. "You see football from a different angle.

"Italy? You'd have to ask Marcello Lippi about my World Cup chances, as all I can do is play well when called upon."

Agent: Fiorentina will sign Frey, Pasqual
tribalfootball.com - March 19, 2006

Italian agent Oscar Damiani is convinced Fiorentina will close the signings of fullback Manuel Pasqual and goalkeeper Sebastien Frey in the summer.

Damiani said: "On Pasqual and Frey I must say that next season they will be part of the Viola team. Pasqual is happy in Florence and Fiorentina and Arezzo will find the agreement for sure.

"The same will happen with Parma for Frey. The desire of the players can never be underestimated."

Juventus chief Moggi baulks Triade question
tribalfootball.com - March 19, 2006

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi baulked this morning over queries about his future.

Juve president Franzo Grande Stevens has admitted the club's Triade could be broken up in the summer, but Moggi would only say today: "We have already spoken a lot about the future, it's time to stop. I do not see a need for giving guarantees at all."

Juventus president Stevens admits Triade could disband
tribalfootball.com - March 19, 2006

Juventus president Franzo Grande Stevens has hinted the Triade of directors Antonio Giraudo, Roberto Bettega and Luciano Moggi could be broken up.

"I think this is a time of change everywhere," admitted Grande Stevens when asked about their future in a Press Conference at the University of Turin.

The trio of directors took charge in 1994 and brought Coach Marcello Lippi to the Stadio Delle Alpi, sparking an era in which Juventus have won six Scudetto titles, the Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, European Super Cup, four Italian Super Cups, a Coppa Italia and an Intertoto Cup.

Fabio Capello has suggested that his future is also tied to the presence of the Triade, although Grande Stevens pointed out in this same interview that he hoped the Coach would stay.

Perrotta admits he almost quit Roma
tribalfootball.com - March 19, 2006

Roma midfielder Simone Perrotta has revealed he was ready to quit the club.

"I didn't think I was going to stay here this season," he told Sky Italia. "When the fans insulted me at the summer get together, I thought it was best I walk away. Coach Luciano Spalletti convinced me to stay and win back their hearts."

The former Chievo midfielder had a difficult time in the capital before coach Luciano Spalletti adopted a new tactical system that made the most of his talents.

"He asked me to adopt a Trequartista role in my own way and in a position that I really like. It has made a world of difference to Roma and to my career."

Roma coach keen on Inter Milan's Pizarro
tribalfootball.com - March 19, 2006

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti admits he's interested in Inter Milan midfielder David Pizarro.

"Clearly I would like to have Pizarro with me at Roma," said Spalletti. "He is a midfielder I admire a great deal and he could give a lot to a club like ours.

"I am not in a position to judge whether he should play more often and I don't want to get into controversy with Roberto Mancini. He will have his reasons and I can only say that if Pizarro reached a big club then it's because he earned that chance."

Real Madrid turn to Lippi
tribalfootball.com - March 20, 2006

Italy coach Marcello Lippi is being considered by Real Madrid.

Real president Fernando Martin is attracted by Lippi's huge experience and also the fact he will be a free agent after the World Cup.

Martin has hit a brick wall in enquiries after his top two targets - Juventus coach Fabio Capello and AC Milan's Carlo Ancelotti - as they are still on contracts beyond the end of this season.

Along with Lippi, Martin is also considering another international coach in England boss Sven Goran Eriksson.

tribalfootball.com - March 20, 2006

Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has promised fans of continuing to work at the top end of the transfer market.

"We have already many champions and we intend to sign even more," said Moggi. "This doesn't depend on my future or the futures of the other directors.

"We are who we are by the way we attack the market. We will do all that is possible in order to satisfy the desires of the club and the tifosi.

"However, all players will be signed in agreement with the trainer."

AC Milan coach Ancelotti admits Real Madrid interest
tribalfootball.com - March 20, 2006

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he's received an approach from Real Madrid.

"Who wouldn't like to be in charge of Real Madrid?" he said after yesterday's 4-0 win away to Udinese.

Juventus boss Capello: Honour to coach England
tribalfootball.com - March 21, 2006

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has declared he is interested in the England job.

AC Milan are considering bringing Villarreal midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi back to Italy.

Triad And Capello Set For Juve Stay (Goal)

Turin based daily ‘La Stampa’ anticipated today that during Friday’s board of directors meeting the club will confirm the famous management Triad at least for another season.
The extension of Antonio Giruado, Luciano Moggi, and Roberto Bettega’s stay in command of the Italian Old Lady probably means Fabio Capello will not move away from the Italian giants this summer.

In-fact Capello, whose contract with Juve expires in 2007, always said in these past months that his future at Juve depended on the Triad’s.

La Stampa adds that the Juve board decided to take this decision in order to provide the team with some much needed stability on the eve of the Champions League quarterfinals.

Furthermore, the decision will allow the Triad and Capello to already start planning the team for next season when they hope to help Juve to its 30th Scudetto.

“I can’t confirm or deny today’s reports. What I can say is that on Friday the board will meet and let’s see what happens,” general manager Antonio Giraudo told reporters this morning.

Facchetti Not Worried About Adriano (Goal)

The Brazilian striker failed to score yet again.
Adriano’s terrible moment continued on Sunday, but this is not worrying Inter’s President Giacinto Facchetti.

“I'm not worried as long as there are the others who are scoring. He is motivated, and we do need him.”

On the other hand there is Alvaro Recoba who is impressing, who however has yet to sign a new contract.

“For the contract we shall re-meet soon. The important thing is that he continues playing this way.

“We needed people who score goals and he did so. Even Cruz when he came in he went close to score."

AC Milan try again for Lazio's Oddo
tribalfootball.com - March 22, 2006

AC Milan have reopened talks with Lazio for fullback Massimo Oddo.

The Italy international is a former Milan trainee and is expected to be sold by Lazio at the end of this season after slamming the management of president Claudio Lotito.

It's emerged this week that Milan, which tried for Oddo in January, have begun new talks with his representatives and the Rome club about summer switch.

AC Milan agree terms with Palermo's Barzagli
tribalfootball.com - March 22, 2006

AC Milan have reportedly struck personal terms with Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli.

Sticking with Milan's philosophy of targeting Italian talent, it emerged yesterday that Barzagli's representatives have reached an agreement with vice-president Adriano Galliani.

Milan still must settle on a free with Palermo, however, with the defender contracted to the Sicilians until 2010.
-------------------------
Juventus - Roma (Channel4)

While Juventus seem to be calmly cruising to the Scudetto, Roma will be desperate to avenge Week 12's 4-1 humbling and to capture three vital points in the race for Champions League football.

A 10 point lead at this stage in the season as good as guarantees that the Scudetto will be in the Old Lady's hands. With the exception of Fiorentina in Week 33, this is the hardest test left for the Bianconeri and a win here would allow Fabio Capello's men to focus on the Champions League campaign. This fixture always has a special significance for Capello who spent five successful seasons at Roma, winning the Scudetto there in 2001.

Last weekend's 2-1 win over Messina ended a brief slump for the Giallorossi. After a record-breaking run of 11 consecutive wins took Luciano Spalletti's side into contention for the fourth Champions League place, the capital side went out of the UEFA Cup to Middlesbrough then lost to minnows Ascoli. Spalletti will need his men to play out of their skins here, but will know even a point may prove the difference between UEFA Cup and Champions League football next season.

This may prove to be a tight contest. While Juventus have the best defensive record on home soil having conceded only five goals at the Stadio Delle Alpi, Roma's defence is the meanest on the road with only 10 goals conceded away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Ex-Roma defender Jonathan Zebina is ruled out with a big toe injury, but Capello's only other injury worry is Alessandro Del Piero who has been with a physio for most of the week's training sessions.

Spalletti has greater concerns. Daniele De Rossi - who won plaudits for admitting to handball instead of claiming a goal against Messina last weekend - has an ankle injury and won't feature. Cristian Chivu is still sidelined with a knee injury picked up against Middlesbrough. Shabani Nonda, Vincenzo Montella and Francesco Totti are out limiting striking options and reserve goalkeeper Alexander Doni is also injured. Honduran Edgar Alvarez is likely to receive another chance to impress.

Juventus: Buffon; Zambrotta, Thuram, Cannavaro, Chiellini; Camoranesi, Vieira, Emerson, Nedved; Ibrahimovic, Trezeguet

Roma: Curci; Panucci, Kuffour, Bovo, Cufre'; Dacourt, Aquilani, Alvarez, Perrotta; Mancini, Taddei

"Answer me this question: Do you think Real Madrid asked me first or Ancelotti?" he asked to the newspaper men.

tribalfootball.com - March 23, 2006

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed yesterday that Dida, Alessandro Nesta and Andrea Pirlo would all be offered new deals.

Meanwhile, along with Gattuso, Galliani also wants to secure Brazilian attacker Serginho to a new deal through to 2008.
