Trapattoni new prospect for Juventus presidency
tribalfooball.com - June 06, 2006

Italy volleyball coach Giampaolo Montali won't be taking on the Juventus presidency.

Montali was offered a fulltime role with the club, or a part-time position, and chose the latter. Juve patron John Elkann is happy for Montali to take charge of 'human resources' and give the fulltime presidency to a football man.

Dino Zoff is favourite, however Giovanni Trapattoni is also being linked with the position. Trap has just signed with Salzburg as technical director, but is ready to negotiate a release from the Austrians if Elkann offers him the Juve presidency.

Maradona Defends Moggi (Goal)

The Argentinean legend described the former General Director as an exquisite person.
Diego Armando Maradona spoke about the current scandal rocking Italian football and in particular about Luciano Moggi who he used to work with during his successful Napoli days.

"These things were already known before. Do you remember 20 years ago when I used to say that at times the ball was 'hot' and at times the ball was 'cold'? The problem is that I was the only stupid who used to talk and now all of this happened."

"When I used to talk to him (Moggi), he always seemed to me exquisite. There isn't only Moggi, it's obvious that the culprits are many."

Cagliari accept AC Milan bid for Suazo
tribalfooball.com - June 06, 2006

Cagliari have accepted a 10 million bid from AC Milan for striker David Suazo.

Milan have moved for the Honduras international as replacement for new Chelsea signing Andriy Shevchenko. However, despite the two clubs agreeing terms, the deal is still some way from conclusion.

Cagliari president Massimo Cellino will return to Sardinia on Thursday to accelerate negotiations. Cagliari want Milan to give them a striker as a replacement and nominated both Marco Borriello and Pasquale Foggia as possibilities.

There is also the player's situation, with Suazo reluctant to move on. The forward has concerns over playing regularly at Milan and favours staying with Cagliari should Cellino stick with an agreement to more than double his current salary.

Agent reveals Villarreal contact for Inter Milan's Materazzi
tribalfooball.com - June 06, 2006

The agent of Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi has confirmed he could be on his way this summer.

"We'll have to meet with Inter," Claudio Vigorelli told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper. "But the interest in him is real, Villarreal already made an enquiry in April."

AC Milan make inquiries after Real Madrid's Cassano
tribalfooball.com - June 07, 2006

AC Milan are interested in bringing Real Madrid striker Antonio Cassano back to Italy.

Milan see Cassano as a replacement for Andriy Shevchenko and have contacted Real's Italian agent, Enzo Bronzetti, to make the Spanish giants aware of their interest.

Cassano, who has struggled with his weight since his January switch from Roma, is keen on the move and a source close to the player said today: "He knows working at Milanello would rejuvenate him."

Milan directors know negotiations will be protracted, with no movement likely from Real until their presidential elections are held on July 2.

Dida To Leave Milan

The Brazilian goalkeeper is heading towards Spain.
Nelson Dida has decided not to renew his contract, which expires on the 30th of June 2007, with the Rossoneri

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has received various offers from abroad, mainly from Spain, with Villarreal and Deportivo being the two main candidates to get his signature.

In case that Milan receive a good offer and decide to sell Dida, his most likely replacement would be Gianluigi Buffon who would leave Juventus in case that the Bianconeri are demoted to Serie B

Lippi Tests Italy Without Totti And Del Piero

The Italian national team coach seems intentioned on playing with a 4-4-2 tactic against Ghana.

Apparently there will be no dilemma during this World Cup, on which number 10 player to field, as Marcello Lippi tested out a 4-4-2 formation without Del Piero and Totti.

The Roma captain was not going to play from the start anyway due to his poor physical form which was apparent in his recent outings. On the other hand, Del Piero was expected to be his natural substitute in the 4-3-3 formation

However, Lippi is thinking of fielding a more solid 4-4-2 team against the Black Stars, with Toni and Gilardino being the two main strikers.

With just a few days to go, and so little time to test new formations, this seems like the most probable team that will play against Ghana in the debut:

Buffon - Oddo, Cannavaro, Materazzi, Grosso - De Rossi, Pirlo, Gattusoo, Camoranesi - Gilardini, Toni

Abbiati open to Plan B

Christian Abbiati is ready to stay at Juventus next season even if they find themselves in Serie B, his agent has revealed.

The goalkeeper was set to return to Milan after spending last term on loan in Turin, but the Calciopoli scandal – which Juve are at the centre of – may see a change of plan.

“Abbiati would accept a Juventus move, even if it meant Serie B,” Vincenzo Morabito told Radio Flash Piu on Thursday.

“After all, it would probably only be for a year after which they would rightly be in the Division best suited for them.

“I would have to recommend such a move to a player. At this moment in time Abbiati is a Milan man, but we’ll have to see how things develop.”

Abbiati initially arrived at the club after Gigi Buffon required shoulder surgery and Morabito feels that the Azzurri No 1 may be coming to the end of his Old Lady stint.

“If Juventus are relegated, I don’t know whether they would be able to keep Buffon as the first choice,” he added.

“We’ll see what happens. Unfortunately the transfer market, and subsequently Christian’s future, will be guided by what happens off the pitch.

“We’ll now just have to wait until the sporting justice system has delivered its verdicts.”

World-Injured Nesta can make Italy opener, says Lippi
June 8 (Reuters)

Italy defender Alessandro Nesta could recover in time for the Azzurri's Group E opener against Ghana on Monday, coach Marcello Lippi said.

Nesta missed training on Thursday along with full-back Gianluca Zambrotta and midfielder Gennaro Gattuso who have both been ruled out of Italy's opener with thigh injuries.

"Nesta has the most chance to recover (quickly)," said Lippi, adding that the centre-half could be fit in time for the Ghana game.

Milan central defender Nesta is suffering from a recurrence of an old adductor muscle injury.

"It is an injury that he has been dealing with for some time, for a few months," the Italy coach told a news conference.

'BEST CONDITION'

Lippi said that he was not overly worried by the injuries that have inflicted his side in the past week and refused to discuss any possible tactical changes he may have to make.

"My only worry is to get to the day before the game with as many players in the best condition possible.

"Unfortunately, we have had some injuries. You hope, obviously, that you will have everyone available but if you have faith in your squad you can't cry about a few players missing.

"You need to have faith in the squad," added Lippi who said it was important that reserve players knew he had confidence in them.

"I've never cried about injuries. I might have a thousand faults as a coach but I feel it is very important that all the players in the squad feel important. That is my character, if someone is injured then I try to find something positive.

"I want to transmit the greatest faith possible to my players and especially in moments when there are injuries.

"I am not angry or upset by the injuries, we will get to Sunday or Monday morning and then decide," added the Italy coach.

The Azzurri also face the United States and the Czech Republic in Group E.

AC Milan's Ambrosini fancies Fiorentina move
tribalfooball.com - June 08, 2006

AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini admits he fancies a move to Fiorentina.

The Viola have been linked with the Italian and he has suggested that a switch to Florence may be on the cards.

“I don’t know anything about these rumours,” he stated. “In general, I’m usually the last person to be informed.

“But if it was true then I would be honoured. For now though, I’m just going to enjoy my holiday after a difficult year.”

Juventus fullback Zambrotta: I haven't signed with Real Madrid
tribalfooball.com - June 08, 2006

Juventus fullback Gianluca Zambrotta insists he's signed nothing with Real Madrid.

Zambrotta is a target for Real presidential candidate Ramon Calderon, but said today: "I have spoken with my agent. But no decision has been made and I haven't signed anything with anyone."

Meanwhile, an angry Juve director general Alessio Secco barked: "If there is a club that is interested in our players they MUST talk to us - and not their agent."
------------------------
Nedved has "no message for Juventus tifosi"
tribalfooball.com - June 08, 2006

Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved has baulked at questions over his future from Italian journalists.

"I do not to have any messages to send to the Bianconeri tifosi," Nedved said yesterday. "I will not make comment on things regarding Juve and the inquiry. I'm here in order to play a World Cup and I want to only think about that."
--------------------------------------------
AC Milan's Gattuso: I almost broke down in tears
tribalfooball.com - June 08, 2006

AC Milan and Italy midfielder Rino Gattuso admits he wept after learning he'd be out for two weeks due to a muscle problem.

“When I came out of the hospital this morning I just wanted to cry, then I saw an old man in the street and realised there are more serious problems in this world,” he said.

“I have to admit that I am deeply disappointed inside, but I have to stay positive for the rest of the squad.

“Being sidelined for 10 to 15 days is an eternity for me, but I usually have a very quick recovery time.”

Gattuso is now expected to miss the games against Ghana and USA, but is hoping to be fit for the Czech Republic tie.

There were suggestions that Gattuso may even be withdrawn from the squad, but both the Coach and the player have rubbished that claim.

“I’ll replace him on the pitch, but not in the squad,” said Marcello Lippi. “He will stay with us. It’s often better to pick up injuries now rather than in the competition.”

Gattuso responded: “Even if Lippi decided to send me home then I would have chained myself to the team bus. You would have had to call the police to take me away.”

Monaco's Vieri agrees Sampdoria terms
tribalfooball.com - June 11, 2006

AS Monaco striker Christian Vieri is a step closer to a return to Serie A next season.

Vieri has met with Sampdoria director general Beppe Marotta in the last 48 hours and struck an in-principle agreement over personal terms.

The Italy international is taking a massive pay-cut on his wages in France - and previously in Italy - to join Samp, the team he supported as a boy.

Del Piero confident in new Juventus management
tribalfooball.com - June 11, 2006

Juventus captain Alessandro del Piero says he has full confidence in the management changes club patron John Elkann is making in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal.

"At Juve they are changing many things and I have great faith in the job that is being done," said Del Piero. "I expect everything to be much clearer after the World Cup."

Fiorentina warn Inter Milan off Toni
tribalfooball.com - June 11, 2006

Fiorentina have issued a new warning to Inter Milan telling them to forget any plans of moving for striker Luca Toni.

"Our attacker in untransferable and our meeting with them was an opportunity for us to inform Inter of that fact," said Fiorentina director general Pantaleo Corvino.

"Our future starts with Luca Toni and his goals."

AC Milan to offer £11M plus Cafu for Sevilla's Alves
tribalfooball.com - June 11, 2006

AC Milan have jumped to the lead in the race for Sevilla fullback Daniel Alves.

Liverpool failed with a major bid, confirmed by Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido, last week, while Barcelona are also keen on the Brazilian.

But Milan have put together an offer of £11 million cash, plus veteran fullback Cafu, in exchange for Alves.

Del Nido won't sell for less than £12 million, but will be tempted by Milan's offer, which has been funded by Andriy Shevchenko's £35 million move to Chelsea.

Buffon Nauseated By Press

The Italian keeper was happy for the Azzurri win, but is still angry at how the media treated him for the betting scandal.
Gianluigi Buffon described the win over Ghana as commanding, but in the end also had words against the press.

"We obtained a net and commanding win, but now I'm nauseated. I only play because I like to, because I want to achieve many satisfactions with this squad.

"The fact is that for 11 years I made interviews, I'm always available, but in the moment in which there shouldn't be any useless controversies, your name pops up on the first pages with things that have nothing to do with football. It means that no one really cares about who you are."

Shevchenko Fit To Face Spain

The Ukraine skipper will lead his side from the front against Spain on Wednesday, after being out of action for over a month with a knee injury.

“I am fine. I have trained well, and I do not want to miss this clash," said the new Chelsea forward after a rigourous training session.

In the 15 minutes that the media were allowed to witness the training, they got enough proof of that themselves. He was seen training and exercising just as hard as any of his teammates, without any hint of trouble.

However, his regular partner up front, Serhiy Rebrov, is still doubtful with a thigh injury.

Were he to miss out, coach Oleg Blokhin has outlined Bayer Leverkusen's Andriy Voronin as Sheva's strike partner.

Torino win promotion playoff thriller
tribalfooball.com - June 12, 2006

Torino are celebrating their Serie A promotion playoff victory over Mantova.

"We did something extraordinary that will remain in the history of Toro," exclaimed Coach Gianni De Biasi following the 3-1 win in extra time that saw them through 5-5 on aggregate thanks to their higher position in the League table.

"We reached this great pinnacle thanks to the dedication and incredible team spirit. The locker room was a crucial element during difficult times."

It was a tense finale for the Granata, who saw Enrico Fantini sent off in extra time, but they clung on to scrape their way back into the top flight.

"I honestly didn't understand Fantini's red card and with him on the field we probably wouldn't have been under pressure. Our hearts took us beyond the obstacles in our path."

Diaw Doudou has had a difficult campaign at the Delle Alpi, but played a key role in this victory. "We really needed this win and gave everything we had, as even a 2-0 result wasn't enough. This side deserves Serie A and more."

Milan tempt Torres   (Channel4)
Wednesday 14 June, 2006
Andriy Shevchenko’s replacement could well be Spain striker Fernando Torres, as Milan line up a £20m swoop.

The Atletico Madrid youngster has been a Rossoneri target for several years now, but the high price-tag and Shevchenko’s presence made the move untenable up until now.

The £30m cash provided by Chelsea for Sheva will prove useful for bringing in the Spaniard, who it’s reported could be tempted into a switch for between £20.5m and £24m.

“I feel that my future depends on this World Cup,” commented Torres, whose contract expires in 2008 with a £60m buy-out clause.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the 22-year-old, who was his country’s leading scorer in qualifying with seven goals.

Curiously, he’ll be facing off against Shevchenko in this evening’s clash between Spain and Ukraine in Group H.

Blasi On Verge Of Fiorentina Move

The Juve midfielder would team up with former mentor Cesare Prandelli.
Manuele Blasi is on his way to join the Viola, as the Bianconeri and the Tuscan side are currently negotiating the deal that would send the 26-year-old to Prandelli's court.

The Fiorentina coach has already coached Blasi during his Parma days two years ago and is looking forward to have him at the club and use his potential.

Inter Milan know price for Fiorentina's Toni
tribalfooball.com - June 14, 2006

Inter Milan directors are convinced they have a price for Fiorentina striker Luca Toni.

Inter transfers chief Lele Oriali confirmed on Monday that negotiations had opened over Toni, this despite denials from the Della Valle family.

Inter's last verbal offer was for £12 million - almost double what Fiorentina paid Palermo for Toni less than 12 months ago.

Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle is determined to hang onto Toni for their Champions League campaign this season, however Inter directors have learned that the Florence club would do business at £17 million.

Oriali and his fellow directors would be prepared to include defender Alessandro Potenza in their bid to bring down the cash component. Inter director Marco Branca confirmed on Sunday that Fiorentina had asked about Potenza's situation.

Tardelli on Juventus board
Wednesday 14 June, 2006
Juventus “turn a new page to leave behind a sad chapter in our history” by appointing Giovanni Cobolli Gigli as the new President and Marco Tardelli to the Board of Directors.

The entire Board of Directors resigned in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal that has rocked the club, as Luciano Moggi is under investigation for alleged match-fixing and collusion with referees.

Franzo Grande Stevens and former Bianconeri legend Giampiero Boniperti will be the honorary Presidents, while ex-Juve defender Tardelli is to be a director at the club.

Patron John Elkann, the heir to the Agnelli Empire, commented on today’s key shareholders’ meeting to begin a new era for La Vecchia Signora.

“Giovanni Cobolli Gigli is a President we have faith in, as he has worked for us for many years and is able to bring us the stability Juve need at the moment.”

Cobolli Gigli is a 60-year-old head of Federdistribuzione and President of the Upim Spa supermarket chain.

Former editor of French newspaper L’Equipe, Jean Claude Blanc, is the new administrator. He organised the Tour de France and Paris-Dakar rally race for nine years and is also director general of the French Tennis Association responsible for the Roland Garros tournament.

Tardelli won five Scudetto titles, two Coppa Italia trophies, the European Cup and UEFA Cup during his playing career at Juventus, not to mention the 1982 World Cup with Italy. Following his retirement, he became a successful Coach with the Under-21 side and a brief spell at Inter.

President of the Piemonte Bank Camillo Venesio, Stefano Bertola, Carlo Sant’Albano, Riccardo Montanaro, Marzio Saà and Italy’s volleyball Coach Gian Paolo Montali are also on the Board.

The giants face a potential earthquake this summer, as allegations of match-fixing could see them docked points or even demoted to Serie B or C if found guilty.

“We are ready for every eventuality. Today we turn a new page to leave behind a sad chapter in our history,” said Elkann.

“This is an important day for us, because we want to confirm that Juventus’ story will continue. It’s a long and difficult journey ahead of us, so the support of our fans is more crucial than ever. It’s time to get to work, as on June 29 the new Board of Directors will be elected.”

There are also other changes taking place, as after 12 years at the club, Scouting Chief Francesco Ceravolo has left Juventus.

Inter Milan offer Pizarro for Roma winger Mancini
tribalfooball.com - June 15, 2006

Inter Milan have made a move for Roma midfielder Mancini.

Inter chiefs Marco Branca and Lele Oriali have made contact with Roma in the last 24 hours and informed them they're willing to part with midfielder David Pizarro in exchange for the Brazilian.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is keen to work again with his former Udinese midfielder, though is reluctant to lose Mancini.

The deal could hinge on Inter's pursuit of Chievo Verona winger Franco Semioli. Roma are also keen on the Italy international and Inter could allow them to sign the player as a direct replacement for Mancini.

Juventus striker Miccoli hopes for Benfica stay
tribalfooball.com - June 15, 2006

Juventus attacker Fabrizio Miccoli has declared he wants to sign permanently with Benfica.

Miccoli spent last season on-loan at the Lisbon giants and he said: "It would appeal to me to stay in Lisbon because I find myself well here, but it all depends on the situation at Juventus.

"I have still two years on my contract with the Bianconeri. The situation is delicate and in Italy the sentence is expected to be handed down in the next few days.

"Once that happens, then I'll make my decision."

He added: "I have an excellent relationship with the people of Benfica, the president and my teammates."

Nedved To Leave Juve

The Czech champion has received various offers which he is taking into consideration.
Pavel Nedved's adventure at Juventus is coming to an end as the midfielder admitted that if the Bianconeri are demoted, he will not remain at the club.

"I know that there are various offers from European clubs, but right now my attention is only for the World Cup.

"I hope for Juve that the problems will be solved favourably so as to be able to continue wearing the Bianconeri's shirt."

Iaquinta Hoping In Roma Deal

The Udinese forward wants a move to a big club.
Vincenzo Iaquinta might soon re-join his former mentor Luciano Spalletti at Roma, as the Giallorossi are trying to lure the Italian international to Rome.

"Right now I don't want to talk about the transfer market. I will think about it after the World Cup, but it's normal that each player aims at going to a big club.

"So far I have a contract with Udinese up till 2010 and it pleases me that Galeone wants to hold on to me."

His biggest regret occurred last December when Barcelona wanted to sign him, but Udinese refused.

"It would have been a dream come true to play along with Ronaldinho and Eto'o. These trains never pass twice."

Torino declare interest for Inter Milan's Recoba
tribalfooball.com - June 18, 2006

Promoted Torino have declared interest in Inter Milan attacker Alvaro Recoba.

"I do like Recoba a great deal, but I fear he will remain only a dream for us," said president Urbano Cairo in a radio interview.

"I do want Toro to be competitive next season in Serie A, but we must remember that it is really our first year in the top flight and we have to be prudent on the transfer market."

AC Milan closer to deal for Juventus keeper Buffon
tribalfooball.com - June 18, 2006

AC Milan are set to bid for Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.

Buffon will seek a move from the Serie A champs should they be thrown out of the top-flight next month over the Calciopoli scandal.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani is pushing for an agreement over Buffon and is willing to send Christian Abbiati to Juve in part-exchange. Abbiati, who spent last season on-loan at Juve, is keen on the move and would have no problem playing in Serie B.

Galliani wants Buffon as a replacement for Dida, who has emerged as a target for Manchester United.

Albertini raps Roma's De Rossi over red
tribalfooball.com - June 18, 2006

Former Italy and AC Milan star Demetrio Albertini has rapped Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi over last night's dismissal against the USA.

Former player Albertini, who is now working for the FIGC, tried to explain De Rossi's behaviour.

"It was a mistake and certainly not a good image for Italian football, but he is a smart boy and will get over this error. I hope he'll be able to play more games in this World Cup," he said.

Genoa back in Serie B
Sunday 18 June, 2006
Genoa are back in Serie B despite their 1-0 home play-off defeat to Monza, so the party is raging at Marassi for 30,000 fans.

The Grifoni had the bunting ready after their 2-0 away victory at the Stadio Brianteo last Sunday, but found the second leg was far from easy going.

Cristian Stellini’s left-foot strike was well saved, then Coppola fired wide from distance for the home side.

After the break, Monza took a surprise lead against the run of play, as Egbedi found himself totally unmarked and kept his cool to slide the finish past Alessio Scarpi.

The visitors gained in confidence and forced some desperate defending in the closing stages, but the 1-0 result sends Genoa into Serie B 2-1 on aggregate.

The Rossoblu were set to enter the top flight in 2005-06, but were demoted to Serie C1 after a match-fixing scandal.
