Inter Milan approach Arsenal boss Wenger
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Inter Milan have made an approach to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Inter patron Massimo Moratti had intermediaries sound out Wenger a fortnight ago about his interest in moving to the San Siro next season.

At the moment, Roberto Mancini's position is not at risk - however, along with Wenger, Cesare Prandelli, Walter Novellino and Fabio Capello have also been put on notice about a possible change at Inter in the summer.

Palermo chasing Barcelona striker Maxi
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Palermo are chasing Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez.
Barca are ready to send the Argentine away on-loan during the winter market and Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has registered his interest.

However, Real Sociedad are favourites for Maxi, where their sports chief Jose Bakero is using his good relationship with Barca to swing the deal in their favour.

Palermo president aims to prise Abbiati from Juventus
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is hoping Christian Abbiati's World Cup ambitions will convince him to quit Juventus in January.

Abbiati has been recalled to Marcello Lippi's Italy squad after starring on-loan at Juventus this season. But the AC Milan reserve keeper knows he will have to step aside next month when Gigi Buffon returns from injury.

Juve are anxious to hang onto Abbiati, but cannot offer the first team football that Palermo can.

Zamparini wants to sign Abbiati as the club's new No1, which could go a long way to the keeper winning a place in next year's World Cup squad should he agree to move to Sicily.

Veron admits he's ready to leave Inter Milan
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Inter Milan midfielder Juan Veron has reaffirmed his ambition to return to Argentina next season.
"I will leave Europe and I have spoken about it already with my family," said the playmaker to journalists during a short break in Argentina.

"My contract at Inter expires in 2006, but if I want to I will leave beforehand."

Veron went on to say that he has also spoken about his plans with his employers, who have apparently told him that they will not stand in his way.

"There won't be any problems if I go," he added. "The club know what my intentions are."

Italy No2 Riva: Cassano can make World Cup
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Italy assistant coach Luigi Riva has backed AS Roma contract rebel Antonio Cassano.

Riva, who is Marcello Lippi's assistant with the Azzurri, said on Wednesday that Cassano - who has been in dispute with the capital outfit over his renewal - has not been treated very well by his club.

"Cassano is blameless in this affair," he said. "Unfortunately Roma didn't propose a new deal to him at the right time and gave him the impression that they didn't want him.

"His ability is not in question. But what really annoys me is that all that the journalists seem to do is highlight his defects."

The 61-year-old went on to say that Lippi was following the situation closely and that Cassano was highly rated by the Coach, who was keeping an 'open mind'.

"Lippi is tracking him," he said. "The Coach is hoping the situation will be cleared up soon and that Cassano starts playing again.

"Apart from anything else, Antonio has always behaved impeccably with the Azzurri."

Inter Milan supremo Moratti determined to land Moggi
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Inter Milan patron Massimo Moratti is pushing through his bid to land Juventus director general Luciano Moggi.
Moggi is off contract in the summer and Moratti wants to bring him to Inter next season to take control of all football matters at the club.

Moratti's pursuit of Moggi also has Inter sports directors Lele Oriali and Marco Branca looking over their shoulders.

Fiorentina ponder bid for Roma's Cassano
tribalfootball.com - November 11, 2005

Fiorentina are weighing up a shock move for AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano.

La Viola president Andrea Della Valle is ready to splash out in the January market as coach Cesare Prandelli's team has a genuine chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season.

Only Inter Milan have so far indicated they're willing to bid for Cassano when the transfer window reopens, but Fiorentina are seriously considering joining the race.

The one concern for Prandelli and director general Pantaleo Corvino is whether Cassano's arrival will affect dressing room morale - particularly with the popular Stefano Fiore likely to be forced to step aside to allow the ex-Bari star to play.

Vieri out - Crespo in? Thursday 10 November, 2005 Channel4

Milan’s Christian Vieri could be on his way to Spain and replaced at the San Siro by Hernan Crespo.

According to Spanish daily Diario Sport, Vieri is being touted to numerous clubs in La Liga, with Espanyol the favourite among them to capture the services of the striker.

Vieri has not had the best of starts to the season at his new club and has scored just once for the Rossoneri.

A further source of displeasure for the 32-year-old is that he is not first choice under Carlo Ancelotti and is growing frustrated at watching on from the sidelines - and sometimes even the stands.

At this stage in his career and with a last chance to appear in the World Cup fast approaching, the Italy international is eager to play regular football.

He is therefore said to be in favour of a move to Spain, where he enjoyed a successful year with Atletico Madrid, scoring 24 goals in as many matches during the 1997-98 season.

Should Bobo leave for the Barcelona-based club, Milan would be keen on welcoming back Crespo from Chelsea.

The Argentina striker, who was hugely reluctant to end his loan spell at Milan and return to London this summer, has hardly played for the Blues this term and allegedly had a huge falling-out with Jose Mourinho recently.

Although he has denied any rift with his Coach, it seems clear that Crespo would relish a return to Milan, where he enjoyed a successful spell last year.

"You must not believe I'm going to leave in January," the former Lazio and Parma man said.

"I am very happy here. The group of players is great and the manager is great. And when you play in a great team it is normal that you do not always have a place.

"Of course I am frustrated. I know that I am at Chelsea, if I want to play for a small team then I will always get 90 minutes. But when you play at a big team like Chelsea you need to be patient. The season is still early."

His wife and family still live in Italy.

FA look to solve Cassano case

The Italian FA have launched an investigation into the Antonio Cassano case, saying that Roma are acting ‘against the interests of the nation’.

The Cassano case has been rumbling on for weeks now with the Giallorossi refusing to play their striker, who is out of contract at the end of the season, until he signs a new deal.

Now the Italian FA and the Italian Footballers’ Association have come to Cassano’s aid, claiming that the club have been acting improperly during the saga.

"He’s a player of national interest," said Sergio Campana, President of the Players’ Association. "So I think the FA will look to solve the problem.

"When a club has to convince a player to prolong his contract by throwing him out of the first team this is against the rules of the game," he added.

Cassano is not alone in having been frozen out of the first team. Earlier this season, Udinese took the same measures to persuade Italy striker Vincenzo Iaquinta to extend his contract.

Iaquinta was dropped from the team for important games against Barcelona, Juventus and Reggina – all of which resulted in defeats for the Friulani – but the 26-year-old eventually gave in and signed new improved terms.

Roma have taken a similar hard line, but with Cassano yet to budge on the matter and the capital’s club sticking to their guns, an ugly impasse has developed. Now the FA feel it is time they got involved.

"President Franco Carraro and the FA said that cases such as this are not just a matter between the club and the player, but the entire footballing organisation," continued Campana. "So the FA will look into the matter and examine it thoroughly.

"I haven’t got involved because to do so one needs to know every last detail of the relationship between the player and the club.

"But President Carraro has invited the League and the Professional Footballers’ Association to study the rules pertaining to cases such as this."

Campana gave the example of Bayern Munich who are at risk at losing a large number of their first team players, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

"Bayern Munich have nine players whose contracts are running out, including their captain Michael Ballack." he added. "But they play without any problems. Only in Italy do we have these complications."

Carraro, for his part, confirmed that the FA would be looking into the dispute with an open mind.

"It is not normal for a club to tell a player whose contract is up in three months that he cannot play," said Carraro. "But it is also not right that a player who scores a hat-trick should suddenly ask for a pay rise.

"We intervened in the Iaquinta case and we will do the same with Cassano. Football must realise that contracts must be respected by both parties."

Cassano will be hoping the case is resolved quickly as the longer he holds out and doesn’t play, the slimmer his chances are of playing in the World Cup in Germany this summer.

Abbiati: No Juventus ultimatum
tribalfootball.com - November 12, 2005

Christian Abbiati insists he hasn't given Juventus any "ultimatums" over the return from injury of Gigi Buffon.
On-loan from AC Milan, it's been suggested Abbiati will seek a move in January as he stands aside for Buffon, who is due to return from his injury lay-off next month.

"There's no ultimatum," said Abbiati. "I am not Buffon and I am the first one to acknowledge that: he is the best in the world.

"He will return in a month and will resume his place - and I do not want to pack my bags."

AC Milan tout Vieri to Spanish clubs
tribalfootball.com - November 12, 2005

AC Milan are touting striker Christian Vieri to Spanish Liga clubs ahead of January's winter market.
The Italy international has struggled to make an impact since his summer switch from Inter Milan and is open to a return to Spain, where he enjoyed great success with Atletico Madrid.

Espanyol, Villarreal and Betis have all been approached about taking Vieri on-loan for the second-half of the season.

AC Milan ahead of Liverpool in Helguera race
tribalfootball.com - November 12, 2005

AC Milan have stolen a march on Liverpool in the race for Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera.
Helguera is off contract in the summer and keen to move to Anfield next season, however Liverpool have been dragging their feet over making the defender aware of their interest.

Not so Milan, where vice-president Adriano Galliani has made contact with Helguera's representatives, assuring the Spaniard they want to bring him to Italy in the summer.

Juve, I'm Here-Pires
11/11/2005 12:54:00 PM
Robert Pires has revealed an interest to move to Serie A giants Juventus once this season draws to a close.
The French midfielder’s contract with his club side Arsenal expires next June, meaning he will be available on a free if he fails to extend his Highbury stay.

“I will meet Wenger and the club’s management in January and we will talk and decide. If nothing happens I will think about Italy. I like Serie A and Juventus. But I don’t want to offer my services. If they want me, they know where to find me. But first let me talk with Arsenal,” ‘Robbie’ told Italian daily Il Corriere dello Sport.

“This summer I was close to moving to Juve, but I still had a year left on my contract and Wenger didn’t want me to leave. I have a lot of friends at Juve: Thuram, Trezegeut, and Vieira,” he added.

Siena Lose Locatelli For A Month
11/11/2005 7:57:00 AM
The former Bologna midfielder picked up an injury during a training session.
After Tudor, Siena’s coach De Canio will also have to do without Locatelli for the next month, who injured himself during training on Thursday.

In the mean time, Marazzina has recovered from his physical problems and is back to train with the Bianconeri.

Lazio skipper Di Canio open to new contract talks
tribalfootball.com - November 14, 2005

Lazio captain Paolo Di Canio is ready to extend his current deal another 12 months through to 2007.
"We still have not spoken about his contract, said Di Canio's agent, Moreno Roggi, "It does seem to me a bit premature.

"However, if he decides to continue playing he will only do so wearing the shirt of Lazio."

Lippi pleased with united Italy
tribalfootball.com - November 14, 2005

Italy coach Marcello Lippi was delighted with his team's performance in Saturday's 3-1 win over Holland.
"This is a confidence booster for us, not a signal for those on the outside, as it proved we can play our own game and beat any opponent," he said after the victory.

"The important thing about this result is building our belief in ourselves. It was our first tie against a truly strong side, one that hadn't lost in about two years, and what I asked of them was to play with the same enthusiasm and character that they used in training."

The Azzurri may not be seeds in the draw for the World Cup finals, but beat a Dutch side that had never lost under 15 games with Marco van Basten in charge. The 4-3-3 system was used again, this time without Totti, and was still extremely effective.

"I think the defence is strong when it has the collaboration and protection of the rest of the squad. Tonight we had total unity and everyone helped out their teammates."

Alessandro Del Piero had a hand in two of Italy's three goals and impressed in a wide left position of the trident attack.

"Del Piero proved yet again that he is an enthusiastic professional who, though he may not play very often nowadays, does so brilliantly. Perhaps that is his secret, though of course he'd prefer to play regularly!"

Lippi certainly has a wealth of striking talent at his disposal at the moment, with Alberto Gilardino and Luca Toni on target.

"Our goals were scored by players who are no strangers to the net. Gilardino always finds a way through and Toni is the current Serie A Capocannoniere. I have always said that I would love to create a team with three attacking players upfront and an organised unit that can support them. We shouldn't go overboard after this result, but we should respect a team that is improving and working hard."

Costacurta has dig at AC Milan coach Ancelotti
tribalfootball.com - November 14, 2005

AC Milan veteran defender Billy Costacurta says this season is likely to be the last for coach Carlo Ancelotti at the San Siro.
"After four or five years a Coach loses his charisma in the dressing-room," he said. "The problem is not whether or not Ancelotti has lost his motivation but whether or not the players have.

"The results of this season have shown the good work that the Coach has done.

"But it is a physiological fact that after several years the side pays less attention to their Coach. The history of the club bears this out: look at Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello, for example."
-------------------------
Adriano: Passion for Inter Milan strong as ever
tribalfootball.com - November 14, 2005

Inter Milan striker Adriano insists he is "passionate" about the club after a string of below-par performances.
"I haven't lost one iota of my passion for this club," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "My job is to score goals and I am getting back on track to do that as best I can. You cannot imagine how important the Nerazzurri are for me.

"Even if I look like a big man, I am a very emotional person," explained the 23-year-old. "These problems between my club and the Brazilian squad make me suffer. I cannot be the one to decide where and when I play for the Sele硯, but the meeting between director Marco Branca and Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira seems to have clarified matters."

Adriano also admitted: "Of course I feel more comfortable playing for Brazil, as the team bus has samba music at full volume and dancing in the aisle. I realise no club could replicate that, but I'm sure once we win something that Inter will be a happier environment. I'm sure we will take some silverware soon."

His personal life has come under the spotlight with a late return from international duty and his clubbing habits coming under attack in the media.

"I beg the fans to judge me only on what I do on the pitch. I do not deny that someone might've spotted me in a disco or at a restaurant, but I assure you that I never went over the top. I am young and need to have fun, but I am above all a professional. I know my responsibilities, but when the team doesn't win, they need to find a scapegoat."

Nedved nears World Cup Sunday 13 November, 2005 Channel4

Several Serie A stars were on target during the international break, as Pavel Nedved inspired the Czech Republic to a play-off win in Norway.

Juve’s Nedved came out of international retirement after 16 months to help the Czech Republic in the World Cup play-offs and put in a great performance as they won the first leg 1-0 in Norway. Vladimir Smicer scored the potentially crucial away goal in a move sparked by the 2003 Ballon d’Or winner.

Inter enigma Alvaro Recoba set up the only goal in Uruguay’s 1-0 home win over Australia, scored by Dario Rodriguez.

Switzerland are closer to the 2006 World Cup finals following a 2-0 victory over ex-Milan boss Fatih Terim’s Turkey. Lazio midfielder Valon Behrami scored the second goal.

There were also many Serie A stars involved in the friendly tests, not least Brazil’s 8-0 demolition of the United Arab Emirates. Milan man Kaka opened the scoring and Inter’s Adriano converted a penalty, while Dida, Marcos Cafu and Emerson also took part.

Inter defender Walter Samuel and former Milan man Hernan Crespo had given Argentina the lead, but couldn't prevent England's last-gasp 3-2 victory.

Lecce hope that striker Mirko Vucinic has rediscovered his form after bagging a hat-trick in Serbia-Montenegro’s 3-1 Under-21 Championship play-off win over Croatia.

Milan join Ballack bidding war Sunday 13 November, 2005 Channel4

Michael Ballack will be a free agent at the end of the season and Milan have joined Manchester United, Real Madrid and Inter in the race to sign him.

The German international’s current deal with Bayern Munich expires in the summer and he has already stated his intention to move abroad.

Europe’s biggest clubs are queuing up to sign the 29-year-old on a free transfer to strengthen their midfields and, according to German newspaper ‘Bild’, Milan are the latest addition to that list.

It’s claimed that rivals Inter have the upper hand following a meeting between director Gabriele Oriali, Bayern President Karl-Heinz Rumenigge and agent Becker, which is said to have taken place earlier this week.

Patron Massimo Moratti is eager to capture this prestigious signing, as the current Inter squad is struggling in Serie A and has fallen off the Scudetto pace.

With Juan Sebastian Veron threatening to return to Argentina as early as January, that makes it even more important that the Nerazzurri find a replacement.

However, Milan are now making their own bid for Ballack, further strengthening one of Europe’s best midfields.

Italy 'only halfway there'

Training getaways key for World Cup campaign, Lippi says.

Rome, November 14 - Italy has built a tightly knit group ahead of next year's World Cup in Germany but is still "only halfway there," coach Marcello Pippi said on Monday .

"We're on the right track but we've only come halfway on the road to being a potential winner," Lippi said .

After accepting praise for Italy's 3-1 win Saturday over another of the World Cup favourites, the Netherlands, Lippi said "we have succeeded in creating the right atmosphere in the dressing room." But he cautioned that "no one can rest on his laurels and I'll be looking at anyone who comes into the frame in the next six months." Lippi admitted that Italy's lack of warm-up matches was "a problem" and stressed that he would try to make up for it with special getaway training sessions .

"Let's also hope that the Italian clubs stay in the European competitions for as long as possible, honing their skills and raising their mental strength at the international level." "It'll be physically tough but it doesn't take long for players to recharge their batteries." Three Italian teams are likely to qualify for the knock-out round of the European Champions Cup: Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan .

However, Italy only has three friendlies scheduled before the World Cup in June: Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) in Geneva on Wednesday, Germany at home on March 1 and Morocco probably at the end of May .

Of these, only the Germany match in March is viewed as a real test .

This is why the planned training camps away from club commitments are "so important," the coach said .

Contrary to rumours of a club-country clash, Lippi said clubs had already voiced willingness to release their players for these sessions .

No dates had yet been set, he added .

As for Cote d'Ivoire, Lippi said it was "a high-level opponent" and noted that many of its top players play in Europe - including Chelsea star Didier Drogba .

Cote d'Ivoire pipped longstanding favourite Cameroon in the Africa World Cup qualifying group .

The World Cup begins at the start of June. Lippi is expected to name his 23-man squad just before the Morocco game .

One of the key questions is whether Roma star Antonio Cassano, embroiled in a pay dispute with his club, will get enoug playing time to advance his claims for a place .

Juventus coach Capello: I owe it all to Berlusconi
tribalfootball.com - November 15, 2005

Juventus coach Fabio Capello admits he owes his great career in management to AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi.
At a supporters' presentation, Capello revealed: "After having been forced to give up the game as a player, I found myself at 34 years of age not knowing what to make of my future.

"But I was able to begin to work as a trainer in the junior system at Milan and I had the great fortune to find a president like Berlusconi, who believed in me as a coach."

---------------------------------
Del Piero: Gattuso almost crocked me!
tribalfootball.com - November 15, 2005

Juventus ace Alex Del Piero has revealed he was almost crocked in the warm-up before Saturday's win over Holland.

Del Piero declared: "The hardest tackle I received on the night was from Gennaro Gattuso! Even in a warm-up between teammates, that's just the way he plays, and that's what makes him such a great midfield battler."

Del Piero feels a surge of confidence in the Azzurri squad after beating Holland and says Marcello Lippi has brought them the Juve spirit.

"You can really see Lippi's mark on this side," said the Bianconeri captain who won every trophy under Lippi during their time together in Turin. "We are like Juventus - wherever we go, we play our style of football."

Inter Milan's Materazzi: Italy can match Brazil
tribalfootball.com - November 15, 2005

Italy can beat Brazil, insists defender Marco Materazzi after Saturday's stunning win over Holland.
The Inter Milan centre-half declared: "Brazil are still at another level in terms of all the other National teams, but playing like we did on Saturday we can give them problems.

"Lippi? He has told us that he was satisfied with the result, but above all for the group and the personality - especially after we came back from a goal down and also did it away from home."

Toldo has swipe at Inter Milan teammate Julio Cesar
tribalfootball.com - November 15, 2005

Inter Milan goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has taken a swipe at Italian clubs over signing so many foreign goalkeepers.
Toldo, who is behind Brazilian Julio Cesar at Inter, declared: "For now the fashion is to sign a foreign goalkeeper.

"If you're Italian, in order to play you'd have to change your last name: I, as an example, would have to be called Toldao!"
----------------------
Figo: Inter Milan still in title hunt
tribalfootball.com - November 15, 2005

Luis Figo insists Inter Milan are not out of the Scudetto race.

Figo scored twice in Sunday's 4-0 friendly victory over Swiss outfit Lugano, with David Pizarro and Obafemi Martins also on target.

The Portuguese ace said: "We had the opportunity to test out some new tactics along with the Coach. As for my role, I can play just about anywhere, the important thing is to contribute to the team. What really counts is always going for the victory."

The Nerazzurri are now 10 points adrift of leaders Juventus, but Figo believes they can still challenge for the Scudetto this season.

"From now until Christmas there are a series of games in Serie A that can give us the chance to close down that gap. I, as I have already said, remain confident."

 -------------------------
Juve join Helguera hunt Monday 14 November, 2005 - Channel4

Juventus have decided to take on Milan in the race to sign Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera, according to speculation in Italy.

As reported by Football Italia last week, the Rossoneri are courting Helguera whose contract with Real runs out at the end of the season to help reinforce an aging rearguard.

The 30-year-old has only been offered reduced terms on his current deal and, insulted by the attitude of Los Merengues, is ready to listen to other offers with Juve now willing to join the negotiating table.

The Bianconeri have a decent defensive record this season, but do not have much strength in depth at the back.

Helguera, who had a disappointing season in Italy with Roma in the 1997-98, making just eight appearances before signing for Espanyol, is now considered to be one of the finest and experienced stoppers in Europe.

Juve are, unsurprisingly given their recent Bosman captures, particularly attracted by the possibility of acquiring him on a free.

The Spanish international is also liked by the two leading lights of Italian football given that he can also play in midfield.

Betis Interested In Vieri ---- Goal
11/14/2005 2:19:00 PM
La Liga strugglers Real Betis are being linked with a move for Milan striker Christian Vieri.
The Seville outfit are keen to reinforce their front-line in January after the serious knee injury sustained by Ricardo Oliveira recently.

A loan move may be just what Vieri needs given his limited playing time at the San Siro this season.

It may now be up to Betis coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer to convince his president that Vieri is what the club needs.

Milan earlier denied reports that Vieri may be joining Espanyol.

----------
Maldini To Retire In 2007 --- Goal
11/14/2005 6:45:00 AM
The Milan captain will leave the football world when his current contract expires.
Paolo Maldini has confirmed that his last season in football will be that of 2007, when he will not extend his current deal with the Rossoneri.

“In 2007, when my contract with Milan expires, I will retire. I have fun every day, I always want to train and feel physically well, and then I’m really tied to this shirt. Football is my life and I still can’t think about a life without football. For this reason the moment of my farewell is postponed for a bit more."

Lippi denies new Italy deal
tribalfootball.com - November 16, 2005

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has denied reports he's signed a new contract extension.

Lippi, who took over from Giovanni Trapattoni after Italy's failure at Euro 2004, insists his future will depend on what happens at the World Cup Finals in 2006.

"The fact that there is talk of a renewal shows that there is faith in me, but we honestly haven't any meetings planned," he told Radio RAI on Monday.

"I don't think we will have any negotiations before the Finals, especially as we will have to see how Italy perform there first."

Lippi is understood to have clear ideas about who will form his 23-man squad, but he insists his doors are still open for anybody who is eligible for the Azzurri.

"We can't go to the Finals with just a team but with 23 players," continued Lippi. "It will be important that everybody contributes their qualities to the overall objective.

"There are 200 days to go and there is still a chance for people to convince me with their form. While those who are already here must stay in the right condition."

Italy are next in action on Wednesday against the Ivory Coast. "They are an opponent to be respected," added the Coach. "They have some excellent players."

Inter Milan's Veron: I'll end career in Argentina
tribalfootball.com - November 16, 2005

Inter Milan midfielder Juan Veron has confirmed he wants to end his career back in his native Argentina.

"I want to close my career in Argentina for family reasons," said the former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder.

"I want to be able to have a final season back home for the good of my family. I am losing things that money cannot buy.

"But I want to make clear, above all here in Milan, I am very happy."

Bayern Munich eyeing Fiorentina star Toni
tribalfootball.com - November 16, 2005

Bayern Munich are being linked with a shock move for Fiorentina striker Luca Toni.

Toni's goalscoring feats this season have attracted the interest of Bayern boss Felix Magath, who is primed for a January swoop on the former Brescia and Palermo man.

The Italy international is emerging as one of the hottest properties in Europe, particularly with him not Cup-tied to the Champions League this season.

Veron: No problem with Inter Milan pal Adriano
tribalfootball.com - November 16, 2005

Juan Veron says he has settled his differences with Inter Milan teammate Adriano.

Veron slammed the Brazilian after he went AWOL while on international duty last month, but said this week: "I am not angry with him.

"In regards to that famous delay, I have expressed the anger of everyone, but it was a one-off episode. No problems exist between him and myself."

Sagnol On His Way To Juve - Rummenigge ------Goal
11/15/2005 4:03:00 PM
The newspaper reports that came out in Italy this morning stating Willy Sagnol will be playing with Juventus next season were confirmed by Karl Heinz Rummenigge this afternoon.
“We did everything to hold onto Sagnol, but Juventus are behind his refusal, they are a very powerful and strong adversary,” the Bayern general manager told reporters.

The Frenchman’s contract expires this June, and therefore the club that will end up signing him won’t have to dish-out one dime to the German giants.

Reports in Germany are indicating Juventus have offered the 28 year old player a four year contract worth 5 million Euros a season.

Prandelli plans Milan surprise  --------- Channel4
Tuesday 15 November, 2005
Third take on second on Sunday when Fiorentina welcome Milan and Cesare Prandelli insists the Viola will go on the attack.

“We know that on paper we cannot compete with the Rossoneri, as they have quality all over the field, but we have the great advantage of having nothing to lose,” smiled the tactician. “We know that we can do well in this match and that the history of football is full of surprises. There’s respect and admiration, but never fear.”

Prandelli’s men have won their last four Serie A games on the trot and have a 100 per cent record at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, so confidence is at an all-time high.

“We are certainly feeling the tension ahead of this game and will try to reach Sunday with the same mental approach that has taken us this far. We read and hear the Press talk, but when it comes to stepping on to that field, we know what has to be done.”

Fiorentina have undoubtedly been the surprise outfit of the season so far and are five points clear of Inter in third place. A victory would put them on level terms with the mighty Milan, but they also face ties against Roma and Juventus over the next fortnight.

“We must take this one game at a time and remain concentrated, taking advantage of whatever weak points we can find in their armour. If we can limit Andrea Pirlo, then perhaps we can create a few more problems for the Rossoneri, although I’ve seen that he can change position to avoid a marker. We’ll need to keep open and adaptable.”

Prandelli comes face to face with Alberto Gilardino for the first time since he left Parma, and the £17m rated striker this week thanked his former boss for kick-starting his career.

“I thank Alberto for the compliments, but a Coach can only achieve great results with the help of great players. In my view, Fiorentina has those players.”

There’s no doubting who the key player is for the Viola, as Luca Toni is Capocannoniere with 13 goals in 11 games and Fiorentina have lost the only two matches in which he has failed to score.

“Many people are amazed by how well he is doing, but we have always believed in Luca,” insisted the Coach. “Palermo put him on the market and none of the big clubs made an offer, so we dived in there. To be honest, I think he can do even better.”

Six players have been suspended for Serie A Week 12. They are Federico Cossato (Chievo), Diego De Ascentis (Livorno), Antonio Langella (Cagliari), Paolo Dellafiore (Treviso), Gianluca Falsini (Siena) and Nicola Legrottaglie (Siena).

AC Milan patron Berlusconi angry over Toni rumours
tribalfootball.com - November 17, 2005

AC Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi has bristled at suggestions he's interested in Fiorentina striker Luca Toni.

Milan and Fiorentina do not enjoy a good relationship, with Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani and Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle no great friends.

"I have never contacted him (Toni) about playing for Milan," scoffed Berlusconi. "He does not appeal to our club."

AC Milan president Berlusconi rules out Juventus trio move
tribalfootball.com - November 17, 2005

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has knocked on the head any talk of a move for Juventus trio Luciano Moggi, Antonio Giraudo and Roberto Bettega.

The three directors are coming off contract at Juve next year and have been linked with a shock move to Milan as a block.

But Berlusconi said: "This simply won't happen."

Moggi: Juventus won't buy in winter market
tribalfootball.com - November 17, 2005

Juventus chief Luciano Moggi has again insisted they won't be making any new signings during the winter market.

"When January comes we won't be signing anyone because we're okay as we are right now," said Moggi.

Agent: Cassano will sign Roma contract
tribalfootball.com - November 17, 2005

A Real Madrid representative says Antonio Cassano will sign a new contract with AS Roma soon.

Ernesto Bronzetti told Radio Incontro: "He will sign a contract extension with Roma.

"He will be reintegrated into the side and he will leave for a big outfit, perhaps a foreign club, in the summer."

Bayern Munich's Sagnol keen on Juventus move
tribalfootball.com - November 17, 2005

Bayern Munich defender Willy Sagnol has confirmed he's open to a move to Juventus.

Sagnol is leaving Bayern at the end of the season as his contract expires and said: "Italian football appeals to me very much.

"And in Turin I will find many French people. The leaders of Bayern have only the contract of Michael Ballack on their minds.

"About my future I will speak in January or February, not before."

Zalayeta’s pain is Socceroos’ gain            ----Channel4
Wednesday 16 November, 2005
Marcelo Zalayeta’s penalty shoot-out miss against Australia cost Uruguay a place in the World Cup Finals today.

The Juventus striker was one of two Uruguayans to have their spot-kicks saved by Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, after the South American outfit had squandered late chances in extra-time to secure their side’s safe passage to Germany next summer.

Dario Rodriguez, who had scored in the first leg win, turned from hero to villain when his penalty was saved in sudden death, but Mark Viduka gave the visitors hope by missing the target from 12 yards.

Zalayeta then stepped up to level the match only to see his shot blocked by Schwarzer, before former Cremonese striker John Aloisi struck the fatal blow in a dramatic finish.

Leading 1-0 from the home leg, the South Americans had started the game well, with Inter’s Alvaro Recoba causing Gus Hiddink’s men all sorts of problems at the back.

However, after Parma midfielder Marco Bresciano (pictured) leveled the tie on aggregate 10 minutes before the break, the Socceroos grew in confidence.

In front of 83,000 impassioned spectators in a packed Telstar Stadium in Sydney, substitute Harry Kewell spurred the home side on and both he and Bresciano missed chances to score.

Zalayeta, though, led an Uruguayan revival in the additional half-hour, and Gustavo Varela, Guillermo Rodriguez and Richard Morales all wasted good chances to put the tie beyond doubt.

Fiorentina - Milan       Stadio Franchi  - Channel4

Milan travel to the Stadio Artemio Franchi looking for their ninth consecutive League win, but they will have to stop in-form Fiorentina striker Luca Toni in the process. Milan, two points behind leaders Juventus, will approach the match with no shortage of confidence having defeated the front-runners in Week 10 and mauled Udinese 5-1 in Week 11.

Fiorentina will prove a serious test for Ancelotti’s men. The Viola have won their last four games, beating Ascoli 2-0 in Week 11, and in Toni possess the most prolific striker in Europe. Toni, allegedly a target for Bayern Munich, scored for the Azzurri against Holland last weekend and Milan will have to be at their best to stop the giant marksman adding to his staggering tally of 13 Serie A goals this season.

The hosts have a painful history against Milan. It was at the hands of the Rossoneri that Fiorentina suffered their record home defeat in 1992, losing 7-3. The Viola fared little better last season and will be eager to avenge their 6-0 and 2-1 defeats.

After a fairytale start to the season, the next three weeks will be a true test of Fiorentina’s progress as Cesare Prandelli’s men must face Milan, Roma and Juventus. The Fiorentina Coach will be able to call on a strong side for the challenge. Guilherme Do Prado, Christian Maggio and Alessandro Gamberini are still sidelined, but Marco Donadel returns from suspension to face his former club and there are no new injuries.

Carlo Ancelotti receives a boost with the news that Andriy Shevchenko is available for his first game since the Week 8 clash with Palermo. He will most likely link up with Alberto Gilardino who will be looking to put one over his ex-boss at Parma. Only Cafu is unavailable after international duty. Given the embarrassment of striking riches, Christian Vieri may find himself in the stands once more.

Fiorentina (probable): Frey; Ujfalusi, Di Loreto, Dainelli; Pasqual, Brocchi, Donadel, Fiore, Montolivo, Jorgensen; Toni

Milan (probable): Dida; Stam, Maldini, Nesta; Serginho, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kakà; Gilardino, Shevchenko
